Just for fun, here's the Mumsnet War of the Roses, based on tea. Photo shamelessly stolen from Facebook.

ItWasOnAStarryNight · 19/09/2024 15:09

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 19/09/2024 15:10

Biscuit-flavoured tea is something I could get on board with.

Yorkshire red used to be the only tea I drank. for many years.
I would also buy Sainsbury red now and then.
These days I drink tea from Ireland, which has also gone down in flavour, but not so much as Yorkshire and, judging from reviews; Lancashire tea also.

Is there any tea that hasn't entirely lost it's good, strong flavour over the past couple of years?
Have seen Yorkshire malty biscuit flavour, also Yorkshire toast and jam flavour, but I just want a good cuppa tea that tastes good and strong like it used to!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/09/2024 15:43

Caveat - I don't drink tea and am in London. I have never seen Lancashire tea!

Deathraystare · 19/09/2024 15:44

Wow! Didn't know there was such a thing as Lancashire tea!

I didn't even know there was Lancashire tea.

LlynTegid · 19/09/2024 15:48

Both are examples of the impact of climate change. You never got either 30 years ago.

Yeahnoforsure · 19/09/2024 15:48

BTW Lancashire tea hasn't been around long, maybe 20 years? Not like Yorkshire tea that's been around for ages, guess it's more of a local tea, so not surprised most haven't heard of it.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/09/2024 16:10

Probably depends on t'water.

MiL used to get a version of Yorkshire tea blended for hard water, not sure if that's still around or only sold in hard water areas.

FionnulaTheCooler · 19/09/2024 16:13

Neither, Scottish Blend. I've never had Lancashire tea but Yorkshire tea is horrible.

TealTraybake · 19/09/2024 16:14

I’m from Lancashire. There is only one tea. And it is called Tetley’s..

Urgh.
That's about the one tea I'd avoid, particularly the decaf. (Well obviously I avoid weird teas like lapsang souchong.)

I'm going to wash the thought of that out of my mouth with a nice afternoon cup of either Assam or Yorkshire biscuit tea...not decided yet.

Yorkshire Tea is not actually grown in Yorkshire. The tea leaves come from various parts of Africa and India, but they are blended in Yorkshire. I'm sure it's the same for Lancashire Tea.

It is just possible to grow tea in the UK, but only in places with a mild climate such as Cornwall, I think.

There’s no call for decaf tea. There’s no call for any tea other than Tetleys.
PG Tips is the devils tea

SlothOnARope · 19/09/2024 16:59

Yorkshire wins on taste, Lancashire wins on box design.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/09/2024 17:04

@FlowersOfSulphur - I think she was joking, but actually it seems there's also tea being grown in Scotland and it's possible to grow your own.

Yeahnoforsure · 19/09/2024 17:28

I think I'd rather have a go at growing my own tea, than buy any of the teas out there today, except, I'm loading up on the Irish tea, not that it's the same strong taste as it was, but because the climate has changed the tea plant in India and Africa recently and no tea tastes like it did.
The flavoured teas are likely manufactured to disguise that the tea itself lacks taste, so they add artificial biscuit and jam flavours to cover this up.

Sarahconnor1 · 19/09/2024 17:34

As a Lancashire lass I concede, its yorkshire tea.
