Reporting bullying (physical assault) school children to police - what will happen?

My DD (secondary age) was physically assaulted - pushed to ground, kicked, winded, elbowed by a group of children on the way to school. There was some limited video evidence on the bus of the start of it, but most of it happened on the way to school, although the main physical assault may not have video evidence. The bus company said they will reserve the footage advised us to report it to the police, which I am happy to do. What would realistically happen to the children involved if there is no video evidence of the assault? Would police be able to reprimand them or speak to them? What usually happens in such cases with police if they do get a report - do they speak to the children involved?
