Parents/Broken Cooker

Wasn't sure where to put this so here it is.

My elderly parents freestanding cooker broke but instead of telling anyone they decided to deal with it themselves which is fine but they both get confused and don't always make the best decisions! Anyway I'm not sure what to do about this and wondered if you think the company are taking the piss and if I should email them and have a moan.

Engineer came out charged a £100 call out fee then changed the thermostat (according to my Mum) charged them £90 and went away. They then realised that the cooker still wasn't working so they called back and was told it would be another call out fee but my dad did argue that so it was waived. Today engineer comes out and tells them the element has gone and it will be £155 to fix it!

Surely as the first repair didn't work they shouldn't be charged for it? Does this sound right to you?

Thanks.

sounds like before the fellow takes off they need to ensure all the burners/oven etc is functioning as it should.

equally the repair shop's around here will tell from the first call IF it's better to replace vs repair.

An element is about £40. Maybe there is more than one thing wrong with it? I would worry they are being taken advantage of though.

Seems sensible but I'm pretty sure your parent's electrician will say that the thermostat was also needing replacement. Of course, that's long gone.

That's the thing if it's the element then that's fine but he said it was the thermostat and it wasn't but they have still been charged! Maybe I should speak to the company rather than going in moaning.

He told them it was all fixed and working before he left so they paid by card over the phone without actually checking themselves 🤦🏼‍♀️
