Would you go to the hairdresser if you had a cold?

I'm booked in for 9.30 am in the morning and I have a cold.
Started last night
My only symptom is a scratchy throat and phlegm back of nose throat
I feel fine in myself ,not sneezing or a blocked nose,I've got no temperature /no loss appetite
Obviously I might start getting a blocked nose tomorrow and sneezing
If I was to cancel or even re arrange now my debit card is charged 50% of apt which is £70
I can't really afford to loose that and then pay another £140 next week.
I have been out and about today and felt fine (except for the scratchy throat and you know the feeling like you have a cold coming on )
Would you go ?

A mild one, yes. I’ve had a bad one this week though and wouldn’t inflict the blowing my nose and sneezing every 2 mins on anyone!

Violetmouse · 18/09/2024 16:03

Why on earth not? Sounds like you’re having incredibly mild symptoms which could be something or nothing. Unless I knew I was likely to be seeing people who were especially vulnerable I wouldn’t change anything I was doing for those symptoms.

I'm hoping the sneezing /blowing my nose stage waits for 24 hours at least

I'm normally in and out in two hours

Worse case, you could always pop a mask on. I’m sure I’ll get negative comments, saying ‘we’re not in COVID times’, but if it means you still go without feeling guilty, then it’s a win!

I would go. Frankly for a hairdresser it's an occupational hazard and I'm sure lots of customers are as considerate as you are
It's a huge amount to lose in my opinion
Take decongestants before you go and take a water bottle with you.
Lozenges to help if necessary.
In my own circumstances I wouldn't as my hairdresser works from home and is T1 diabetic.
Take a mask with you if you have one.

Normallynumb · 18/09/2024 16:22

Aren't as considerate I meant

dothehokeycokey · 18/09/2024 16:34

Wear a mask op

I work in close proximity to people in a small area and any that rock up with colds bugs etc get given a mask to wear.

Most hairdressers are self employed so can't afford to go sick so the most considerate thing is to wear a mask.

I wouldn't if I was going to have my hair washed. Got really shivery once walking home in the cold after the hairdresser's and had a bad cold for a week.
