New Job - Paid in arrears, please explain!

I started a new Job last Monday, Payday is the last day of the Month. If my contract says Paid in arrears, would you think I get paid at the end of this Month or next?

No opportunity to ask my line Manager until the first week of October!

I’d ask someone from your people team (HR) or finance team. They’ll know when is the payroll cutoff date for this month, chances are your line manager wouldn’t know that anyway.

Should be this month otherwise it'd say a month in hand. I think it is increasingly rare that you have to wait two months before pay these days.

People who are paid monthly almost always get paid at the end of the month they've just worked.

However, there's often a cut off, which means that if you started work on 9 September, it could have been too late to put everything in place so you're paid at the end of September and without you intervening, you'll get nearly 2 months pay at the end of October and then monthly from the end of November.

However, most employers recognise that many people can't wait that long to be paid, so if you did miss the cut off, they should be able to arrange a temporary payment that is similar to what you'd get paid and it will be sorted properly at the end of October. If you can't talk to your manager, talk to payroll or a local contact within your team/office to ask for clarification.

I don't agree with previous comments.
It means that what you have earnt from last Monday 9th to the end of September will be paid in October's pay.
So, in most salaried jobs you're working a month but not being paid for it until the following month's pay date.
Being paid in arrears "Paying in arrears usually refers to paying an employee for work completed from a previous pay period instead of the current pay period."

No, it's you who's wrong @meeeeeee1234. Monthly paid people are paid at the end of the month they've just worked. That's what 'monthly in arrears' means.

Weekly paid people are often paid how you describe so would be paid for this week on Friday 27th.
