25 pounds a week for food for one?

Just that really.

Soon I will be in this position. After everything paid, I will have 25 pounds a week for me and a cat. I do not drive so would have to get a home delivery once a month (it is an expensive service where I live so could only do it once)

I think it is doable, any one else do this or any tips?

I am thinking lots of lentils, frozen and fresh veg.
Rice, eggs, frozen fish, big bag of potatoes, apples etc.

Personally I don't think £25 is enough , you may scrape by but long term it's not healthy and just soul destroying

As a vegetarian I wouldn’t bother with a slow cooker; a pressure cooker is far more use.

If you can borrow one for a couple of weeks you can cook loads of pulses from dried really easily, then freeze them. Chickpeas are dirt cheap in dried form and are a great source of protein.

Ditto lentils and beans - I do rice and black beans together with onion, garlic, chilli and peppers and it is a great base for Mexican style dishes, wraps and salads. Loads of carbs and protein for very little money, and freezes well.

Good luck!

It's doable if you batch cook, split and freeze multi packs and so on. The problem would be if toiletries, loo roll and washing powder run out at the same time. But if you shop
Around and buy when on offer that would help.

Had another thought. Look at Thrifty Lesley, she does whole week recipes.
Also if you have any spare money between now and when your income drops buy toilet rolls, laundry & cleaning stuff.

You may struggle for protein and also store cupboard items.
The freezer is your friend as you waste less.

I would do something like

Breakfasts - Oats, greek yoghurt, frozen berries, grated apple, almonds
Eggs, toast, cottage cheese, mushrooms, pumpkin seeds, extra virgin olive oil
Lunches - frozen prawns, canned tuna, canned sardines, ham, left over chicken, beans/quinoa, salad bits
Dinners - bolognaise, chicken or pork stirfry, fish stew from frozen fish, spicy bean stew, a lentil dish, roasting a whole chicken at the weekend.

I have a laundry egg - it was £20 but then powder is no longer needed. Its OK if items aren't too soiled but I am a messy eater so didn't really work.
