Lolita style clothing - anyone else dc like this?

My youngest dc likes lolita style clothes.
To me this is lots of frills and bows almost like dress up clothes. None of its practical and as all of it is from Japan £££.
To make matters worse dd thinks she wants to be a boy but one who dresses as a girl. My head hurts!

Basically . I think I'm just so confused.
If they leave the house it's in a mini skirt top over the knee stocking and goth makeup. But get upset if we refer to them as a girl as apparently they are a gay boy who dresses in female clothes.

It's dress up and pretend, popular at the moment with young teenagers. This too will pass.

My friends and I were into lolita style clothing when we were at uni. My friend who would go to conventions and was really into it, is a doctor today. It's a phase.

I am a 32 year old married woman who wears seasalt and boden, I think younger me would be horrified lol.

@purpleme12 I'm not a bot been here about 18 years.

I'm hoping it's a phase but it's been like this for 3 years.

They’ll look back on it in a few years and cringe so hard, just like when emo kids look back now. As long as they don’t modify their actual body, it’s just dress up, I wouldn’t be overly concerned, although i would be embarrassed to be seen with them.

Get her out of whatever school she is in as it sounds like this is the source of all this nonsense.

Get her into therapy.

Hiiiiiiiia · 18/09/2024 00:16

get you kid in a psychologist urgently. this is not normal. this lgbtq+ are brainwashing kids, what a sad world we live in

They are seeing a therapist. Also waiting for an autism diagnosis.
They are now homeschooled due to physical and verbal bullying at school.
I had hoped this would make life easier but they are doubling down on being a boy.

Lolita style clothing? Is this is a thing? That makes me feel physically sick. If my DC was referring to their style as ‘Lolita’ I’d be explaining why I don’t find a book about child rape a valid style choice…

It’s a very long-established Japanese teen subculture. I suspect the more repellent details of the book have been slightly lost in translation, it just means girls wearing gothic, doll-like outfits. There have been Loli Goths promenading around Harajuku since I was a teenager, 30 years ago
