Postpartum body

Hi,

Does anyone else struggle with their body after having children?

The biggest problem is bloating. I just get so big and uncomfortable. Since having my second it's like my tummy muscles are so worn out and stretched that the tiniest bit of bloating ends up looking huge. I looked pregnant today and found it so upsetting.

I've got some excess skin on my belly and my pelvic floor is crap. If I need to wee I NEED to wee and it's sad to think that is his it will be for life.

My boobs have also shrunk so much.

Yes I'm proud of my body for giving me 2 beautiful babies and yes I'm happy and grateful to be alive and healthy but all of the above sometimes just really gets to me.

It also doesn't help that I've recently come off my contraceptive injections (dh had the snip) so my hormones are all over the place. And I'm generally so tired from looking after the kids.

Thank you for reading and please be kind, I'm feeling very sensitive.

I’ve felt like this. How old is your second child?

I hated everything about my body and no amount of reassurance from my dh helped. I bought some new clothes for my new figure and tried to get a make over with a new hairstyle and it was a temporary fix.

Over the last couple of months I’ve started to like myself again. I’ve been going on daily walks and trying to make sure I eat a little bit better but not putting any pressure on myself.

Youngest is 2 and a half years old.

If I don't watch what I eat I gain weight instantly- another thing I forgot to add to my original post! Is that a having kids thing or an age thing? I'm only 34! In my twenties I ate whatever I wanted and was always slim.

Sorry to hear youve had similar struggles x

I'm still struggling- I have my good days and bad days. My little ones are nearly 3 and one 15 months.

I've got lots of loose skin on my belly with stretch marks due to how big I got during pregnancy. I also have a crap pelvic floor.

I’m exactly the same with food even when I’m active all day with 2 kids, if I don’t get out a walk or watch what I eat then I start gaining weight easily,

I’ve started going to one gym class a week. I’m enjoying getting some time to myself and moving my body but that issue is arranging childcare if my dh is working. Is this something you might be interested in?

@justmyluck1234 sorry to hear that, it's so tough isn't it.

@Lostworlds i usually go running twice a week but dh is my only childcare so sometimes it has to take a backseat. I'm hoping to go tomorrow but if dd has another crap night I'll be too exhausted. I need running for my mental and physical health, I'm really passionate about it and struggle without it.

Pilates, pilates, pilates. It will fix problems you didn’t even know you had - as well as the ones you know about. I should take my own advice on this one. But when I did a course of 10 1:1 sessions after my second baby, it was borderline miraculous.

I had my 3rd a year ago, I’m back to my normal weight and my boobs were tiny to begin with anyways so they’re pretty much the same (maybe a bit lower), but I absolutely hate the loose skin, my belly button hangs a bit lower and when I sit down I have rolls of loose skin. I also think I’ve aged so much since having kids, probably because I haven’t had a full night sleep in five years…
