Not sure it needs further detail! Amazon only people who can deliver asap due to where I am.

Tried pouring hot water down there?

moodymary · 17/09/2024 08:13

Definitely the Luigi one linked above. I was sceptical when I ordered one, thinking I’d end up calling a plumber anyway, but it worked brilliantly.

Clumsy12345 · 17/09/2024 08:14

Also agree with the one posted I have that one and it works well

PrincessPeache · 17/09/2024 08:15

Another vote for the one up thread!

Arcadia · 17/09/2024 08:15

Yes @moodymary I'd spent hours with hot water, coat hangers etc then picked up one of these at a hardware shop and it worked instantly, never had a problem since, it's a five second job!

Lastminuteisinit · 17/09/2024 09:56

You guys are the BEST, thank you!

i have tried all the things (going to just try fairy liquid and some bleach again now) I was just hovering over that very one. Do you just plonk it in and do it like an accordion/bellows or how does it work?

I will report back!

It very much depends on what has actually blocked the toilet. If its baby wipes and toilet roll then a mechanical method is needed - bleach etc wont sort those out. If it’s poo, then you could use a metal coat hanger bent up to break up the poo. Chemical methods would take ages to break down poo!

Lastminuteisinit · 17/09/2024 10:24

We have no baby wipes in the house, I strongly discourage even tissues in loo (don’t break up the same way loo roll does) and children swear they haven’t put anything down there (I sort of believe them?) because I am generally quite eco friendly and also hate dealing with plumbers/dyno rods! Especially after having to deal with one who was convinced I had put sanitary towels down the pipes (didn’t want to get into the comparé and contrast of mooncups, period pants etc…)!

i have ordered these poo bellows though so we’ll see!

My son blocked mine with too much toilet paper and washing up liquid did the trick. Good luck.

NewGreenDuck · 17/09/2024 13:38

I'm more inclined to get the drain rods out, lift the manhole cover and rod the drains back towards the toilet. The blockage might actually be in the drain, not in the loo. ( it was the last time the loo was blocked).

strawberry12345 · 17/09/2024 13:40

Another recommendation for Luigi’s

Arcadia · 17/09/2024 15:46

Just whack it down there and pump it!

ouch321 · 17/09/2024 15:53

I got this advice from a plumber on YouTube and have used it to good effect several times since.

Stupid low flush toilets keep blocking because the gentle flush is too weak.

Anyways... let the water recede back to normal level in the bowl. Get a jug or bowl of water, cold will do, hot a little better, but not boiling. Fill it and pour the water forcefully from a height down the loo at the same time as flushing the loo. The extra pressure will almost always clear the clog.

Move towels or whatever out of the way first if needed.

the water keeps sinking very low so I’m going to try this! Toilet is 1.5 years old and we had all the plumbing replaced (like back to joists and bricks renovation) when that was done and then drains flushed out to make sure any debris cleared. So stressful!

I was astounded this worked as got off the internet having tried everything. Bin bag over loo, old fashioned mop. Google it. Worked immediately with a very pleasing unblocking noise.

I was astounded to read this on mumsnet also but given I’d have to buy the old school mop head (have eco mop, a flat one) then I just went for the Luigi plunger thing.

awaiting its arrival with excitement!

Toilet brush with a carrier bag/bin bag over it can also work if you have one.

DevilsIvyy · 18/09/2024 07:12

I don’t think you can mix bleach and fairy liquid together.

How did it go? I've stumbled across your post because I have the same problem 😖
