Episiotomy Stitches opening

Had a baby last week my stitches have loosened and now I have 3 gaps/holes midwife came to check them today and said to leave them be and that just make sure my legs are together when I sit etc. she said it’s wear the swelling has gone down. Has anyone else had this happen. I’m still in a lot of pain but on medication to help. When ever I move I’m worried it’s going to get worse. I keep looking down below with mirror as i constantly feel like it’s got worse. I keep crying over how it looks and feels not being able to sit properly for a week and move is draining me. My partner has had to go back to work from day one and I’m home alone during the day looking after a new born so if definitely been over doing it but haven’t had a choice.

has anyone been left with extra holes? My partner is very hands on when he’s home and helping as much as he can but he’s self employed and annoyingly he’s had a really busy week which is amazing as we need all the money we can for a bigger house.

Yes. Scar tissue eventually heals over the gaps. Took about 2 months in my case.
Ask for advice to avoid infection as that will prevent healing and keep asking for pain relief - don't be fobbed off.

I have had 2 episiotomies. 1st one I lost stitches / got an infection. 2nd healed really well. All I would recommend is regular shallow baths (think I used a few drops of lavender oil), first sign of a smell with lochia get it checked out, rest up, take up every offer for a check from midwife. Hope you feel better soon.

I’m phoning the doctor again Tomorrow first thing as the pain is so bad even with dihydracodine paracetamol and ibroprufen.

This happened to me op. I had an episiotomy with dc1 and had lots of stitches some of which came open and I was left with a hole which looked around the size of a 5p coin. I was very sore and couldn't sit down properly for weeks. At first I didn't realise I had the hole as like you say we cannot see down below until I got a mirror to take a look at why I was so sore. At my 6 weeks postnatal check the nurse took a swab of the hole which turned out to be infected. After a course of antibiotics and a few weeks the hole did close up and heal luckily. have you had it looked at and checked for infection op? mine fully healed and all OK

I had this after 58 stitches, junior doctor. Was painful to have sex I endured it got pregnant again had another episiotomy. By a midwife this time. She was scathing about the first one and carefully repaired it all. It was bliss not to have painful bumps after all that time.

Wait until any chance of infection has passed for now.

Thank you midwife has said that there doesn’t seem to be any signs of infection it’s just the pain I’m in the codine isn’t working I just took a small dose of some morphine just so I could get up and feed baby and get back to sleep without crying in pain
