malicious report to the police.

Someone I've fallen out with online warned me that they could ruin my life, confirmed my name and where I live and then sent me screenshots of confirmation that they'd reported me online to the UK police for being involved in terrorism (I don't have anything to do with it, at all) I only know that he lives in the Netherlands, his first name and I have a photo of him but nothing else. He said in the past he was involved himself and served time but I thought it was made up/a joke. He's said it's 'my turn' and that I will be sent to prison whilst they investigate. I really don't want the traumatic experience of police turning up in full gear at my house and removing me.

whats likely to happen? Do I need to be prepared for them to swoop down on my house imminently? Am I probably about to be arrested?

Presumably you have saved these messages or have screenshots?

Could the 'report' be photoshopped / fake to make you feel like shit? Sounds like this person isn't very well...

I don’t think it is

That's not how the system works. For one thing the police aren't going to come charging in based on one unsubstantiated report to them. Anti terrorist departments are shit hot on who's a threat and who's not. Chances are even if he has reported it you won't hear anything about it, at most the local police might come & make you aware of the call.

This is one time the famous 'log it with 101' might be appropriate. Call 101, explain to them what's happened & immediately reduce his power.

Police get false calls of various things day in and day out. They know how to weed them out

Don't worry about it

Luzina · 17/09/2024 00:16

I agree that you should ring 101. This person has threatened you.

Edingril · 17/09/2024 00:18

Stop giving details to people online, and maybe just stop talking to people online if this mess happens

Something needs to change

CalicoPusscat · 17/09/2024 00:19

This seems weird - what is your link to him?

Very much doubt you need to worry

Allthehorsesintheworld · 17/09/2024 00:36

Just in case this person has made a report call 101 and log everything you know. Keep all the screenshots, back them up.
The police are used to malicious reports , they can usually suss them out so no one is going to march in and arrest you.

KerryBlues · 17/09/2024 00:43

How did they get your name and address? You need to be a lot more careful online.

BobbyBiscuits · 17/09/2024 00:54

In what way did they say you were involved in terrorism? Is there anything you've done or said that the person could use as evidence to that effect?
If they said you had a firearm and were threatening people with it, for example, then I'd imagine the police would attend. Possibly armed.
Other than that it's very unlikely they'll do anything. Other than maybe just ask to speak to you. There is almost certainly insufficient evidence.
But it sounds like you should tell the police you're being harassed by this person and show them the screenshots.
The police could punish him for wasting police time. Or the whole thing could just be a cruel hoax.
I dread to think how this whole situation came to fruition in the first place.
But you've done nothing wrong presumably so please don't panic.

ive spoken to someone about it they reckon its a scam (I don’t know what the scam would be) or just trying to scare me for kicks. Someone else will be helping me to speak about it to the police tomorrow.

There are quite a few scams like this going around. The scams that try to get money from you I understand but scams like this, where they just want to scare you don't really make sense. However he might message you again and demand money or something, then you Def know it's a scam. I agree with what other people say about being careful what you say online, that being said, people have no clue what is actually out there and there's prob way more information about yourself available than you even know.

Just screenshot everything and block him.

I appreciate that the police can be stupid, but hopefully not this stupid, not when you give them a full account of your communications, and a print off of this communication here.

Why are you posting on a zombie thread?

Ghht · 14/09/2025 01:57

Well, unless you are actually involved in anything related to terrorism then you have nothing to worry about. The police do not have the time or resources to go busting down every house of every person who gets reported without an initial investigation into the circumstances.

If you have been involved in such things then I’m not sure why you’d post on here…reap what you sow, etc.

Not exactly the case in the UK currently, under police "special powers", CPO`s etc, they can "sentence" you on the spot with impunity on the grounds of false allegation which they choose to consider as being true.
