Sorting laundry

I have adhd and I am dyslexic so I don't type very well.

I'm trying to figure out a routine for after I've washed the clothes. How boring. Currently they go to my bedroom and then I sort them into piles. This isn't working.

Please let me know how you sort clothes from after washing to the designated bedrooms

Tip onto double bed and put into piles, works fine

I had to draw a flowchart for ASD teen about this! He somehow got into a right stressy muddle about it so we needed a system.
(I wish I could send you a photo but it's long gone now)

First step - is the kitchen table clear and clean? (if not, clear it and wipe it down)
Dump clean dry washing in middle of table.
Designate a chair for each person (the one they usually sit in for dinner)
Fold each item of clean washing as you come to it, and place it on the owner's chair.
Use Alexa to announce (or text everyone) "Please collect your clean washing now"

Thankyou so much

I fold from the basket/dryer onto the kitchen table/sofa.

I make piles by owner as I fold, then either I or someone else takes them up and drops each pile off on the appropriate bed for the owner to put away, or call each owner to take their pile up (and put it away).

I find it much easier to sort as I fold, and there's only the current load at any one time as I do it as it's dry.

Azandme · 16/09/2024 14:01

I also fold knickers/socks last and put them on the top of each pile - it makes separating the piles easier if I decode to take them all up in one go.

I have 3 baskets to sort them into off the clothes horse - 1 for dh and 1, 1 for dd and 1 for ds. Then the baskets go into the bedrooms

I wash things either tumble dry or hang to dry . When things are dry they get folded and put in a laundry basket to take upstairs . I then put it in piles for each person and leave the pile on the persons bed . Towels / sheets etc I put away .

MazeRunner · 16/09/2024 14:08

Once it’s dry (from washing line or air dryers)
it’s folded into the empty washing basket. I then take it upstairs, empty it out onto our bed and fold into piles.

I take the dcs clothes and put them away straightaway, then I hang/put mine away. I fold dhs, but he puts his away himself.

Our laundry is quite easy to sort though, I wash dcs clothes together, then mine & dhs together so it’s not all mixed up in the first place.

I do a load a day so I usually sort and put away/hang it up every two days, rather than everyday.

@SpiderGwen ASD household here and ours is pretty similar.... 🙂 Except we leave the piles on the table at their place and then they have to move them if they want to eat dinner 🤣

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 16/09/2024 14:15

I've got I'd twins who like the same clothes. I empty it all out into the bed and they come and claim it. It's not ideal but better than me sorting two of one thing into the same pile
And one complaining they don't have xyz.

WhatNoRaisins · 16/09/2024 14:16

I use a shopping bag per person, fold clothes, put into each person's bag and then take a bag up at a time and put clothes away. If I get interrupted or run out of time I leave the bags of folded clothes out of the way until I've got time to continue.

The lazy sods would probably rather eat standing up than put things away, so I message them.

(I won’t even start on the clean clothes on the floordrobe in DD’s room that the cat then sleeps on…)

I have a basket for each person. The stuff is folded and plonked in with underwear and socks (unpaired, that's up to them) on top then sat on the stairs to go up with them, or if I'm feeling generous, outside their bedroom door.

Flylady website often has good advice for this type of questions. www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/august/

I get each persons off the line one at a time, folding as I go. Clothes already sorted and each pile straight into the right room.
