Please call me down regarding lump in breast

Well I wouldn't even say it's a lump, it's some kind of swollen area, I think it's a lymph node and it's on the upper outer part of my right boob. What's freaking me out is about two months ago I went to the gp with a mole that appeared during pregnancy about two years ago, I thought it was melanoma, the SkinVision app told me it was high risk and to check it, so I did, the gp wasn't concerned, measured it, did the abcde, said all was fine. But this swelling I can feel is below where this mole is ! When I have a feel of my boob it bloody hurts afterwards.
I'm going to call the gp tomorrow and ask for a female but in the meantime I'm worried I have melanoma and it's spread to my lymph nodes!

I had a lump once. I found it Friday evening and tried to pretend I wasn't scared. So when I phoned the GP for an appointment and they asked me if it was urgent I cheerfully said "oh no" so they gave me Tuesday.
I worried all weekend, all Monday.

I kept checking it between my finger and thumb and thinking "it's grown."

Anyway I arrived early for my appointment on Tuesday, and they were running a little late, so I decided to do one last check in the toilets... It popped.
It was just an ordinary spot.

I came out to them calling my name, and went in and had to explain to the GP. They did laugh, but also said I'd done the right thing.

Hopefully yours will be similar.

I found a lump in my right breast last year, I decided I wasn't going to worry until I had reason to. Went to the GP they referred me, got it checked out and was told it was a benign cyst. Decided to have it removed anyway just in case. So don't worry, hopefully at most it'll be a benign cyst.

foundalumpon · 15/09/2024 20:55

I keep telling myself it could just be a cyst or something, I had a baby 7 months ago so lots of breast changes. But it's this mole that is making me worry because of the proximity to my breast and where I can feel raised lymph nodes (or at least what I think is raised lymph nodes)
I have attached a picture of it

It is flat, not itchy or anything like that

Also, would a cyst hurt ?? I'm convinced it's melanoma and the tumour has started draining into the closest lymph nodes

I’m no doctor but cysts can be painful, depending on what the cause is. Have you been prodding and poking where your mole is at all? I only ask because I had health anxiety after my youngest was born and ended up hurting myself and causing bruising because of the prodding.

The mole looks uniform, small, non raggedy edges etc and the doctor isn’t worried so you should feel reassured.

merryandbrightdelight · 15/09/2024 21:46

Like @HÆLTHEPAIN I developed nasty health anxiety after dd5 was born, and that December I became obsessed with a raised lymph node I have on my neck (it's raised because of its position and I've had it years) and was referred to have it checked and spent the entire Christmas period wrapping presents and crying thinking that I wouldn't see another one with her, it was awful. When I had the ultrasound I cried all over the sonographer who took pity on me and kindly told me it looked totally normal but I had to pretend that they hadn't told me and to speak to my GP.

Few months later I found a lump in my breast and was referred, examined, and sent for an ultrasound, which showed it was a fatty lump and nothing to worry about, and it disappeared a few weeks later on its own.

I then went on to find another one or two lumps that both went by the time I'd been referred. All of this was put down to being on the pill as it increases the risk of them, so I came off it and went onto the depo (which I am now off and that's caused a whole lot of issues too!)

But bottom line, go and get it checked, don't Google (I do this too, I know it's hard) and see what your GP says. Your mole looks nice and round and smooth, but if you are still worried, ask your GP if they can look at removing it for you. I had one removed on my arm years ago because I caught it and it bled, so because I was worried they removed it. Good luck

LostittoBostik · 15/09/2024 22:11

I've had ultrasounds on my boobs twice for these kind of lumps - once in my 20s and once when bf. Both were fine, just thickened breast tissue. It's very common.
Of course get all the checks done, but it's far more likely to be something totally normal than the thing we all fear
The lumpy bits are still there and haven't grown or grown - it's just the shape of my natural boob

LostittoBostik · 15/09/2024 22:13

That mole does look normal OP. Show it again to the GP but I have loads like that (I have TONS and lots on my back and new ones arrrive a lot since I was pregnant so I get them all checked yearly)

KievLoverTwo · 15/09/2024 22:33

I had an angry red swollen area that couldn’t be described as a lump in my boob once. It got sorer and sorer. Iirc (it was 20 years ago) it ended up getting hot to the touch.

I left it a long time to get it looked at. A year.

Turned out to be an infected milk duct. Antibiotics got rid of it. Iirc it kind of met the nipple but the whole red area was probably six inches in diameter.

merryandbrightdelight · 16/09/2024 06:26

Op I meant to say, I prodded and poked the lumps and the areas around them that much it was beyond painful, I even used to get shooting pains in the area because I'd irritated the nerves that much

foundalumpon · 19/09/2024 06:18

Hi everyone thank you so much for your reassurance especially around the mole. It has worried me ever since SkinVision flagged it as high risk.

So I saw a lovely gp yesterday and she has put me on the 2 week pathway, which is a little scary but I know most likely it's going to be a cyst or something, maybe something to do with my milk ducts considering I'm 7 month post partum.
She could feel it which I was glad about as I was starting to doubt it was even there and I was just "feeling things" she also said it felt like a swelling, I think it feel thickened? And if I feel closely enough I can feel a pea shaped ball but that could be lymph nodes couldn't it ?
I'm only 34 so hoping age is on my side!

You've done the right thing and on the way to seeing experts who'll scan and check it all out. Silly to say try not to worry but it won't change the outcome, will it? Good luck x

foundalumpon · 19/09/2024 17:57

@Lifestooshort71 thank you !

Already got my appointment and only got referred yesterday so that's good. It says I'll be their 2-3 hours as will be having a scan, meeting consultant and getting results. That's fast isn't it ? Is that anyones else's experience?

That's really good news! I only waited about a week, one of the lucky ones. Be prepared to be there quite a while as they'll scan and mammogram you and, if necessary, ultrasound with a biopsy. They will have a broad idea of what's what by the end of the day and you'll be in good hands whatever the outcome. Fingers crossed, my lovely xx

foundalumpon · 19/09/2024 20:53

@Lifestooshort71 Wow do they really do it all in a day ??
I've had a good feel earlier on and it feels like it's changed shape, I can't really feel the thickening now but can definitely feel a pea sized lump, or a few of them. So I'm thinking, or hoping, it's glands !

Yes, this is the normal procedure - it doesn't mean they think you're high risk or anything, it's just the routine one appointment scan thing

I've been through it twice. Both times it was just thickened breast tissue. Try to chill if you can

NoOneKnowsWhoYouAre · 19/09/2024 21:57

I developed a lump in COVID. Was referred and seen within 10 days, had an ultrasound and a mammogram then saw the consultant. They could see an abnormality but thought it was most likely just an enlarged milk duct. They said I have dense breasts which is apparently good for mammogram (I just thought they were tiny). As they couldn't say 100%i was offered to comeback the next day for an MRI with contrast "if I wanted to". They way they said it made it sound optional and like they thought it overkill, but of course I had it done, who wouldn't was what ran through my mind!!??

All was totally normal and a week later the lump went!! 🤣

OooohAhhhh · 21/09/2024 11:21

@LostittoBostik yes they really do it all in a day. It was around 1.5 hours or just under for me in total, from walking in, having tests, to finding out.
It's the best NHS service I have ever encountered, so efficient and they take it all very seriously.
You'll have an initial consultation/physical examination, then mammogram then once Dr has analysed that a ultrasound. They told me at the ultrasound stage mine was just normal breast tissue as the Dr had already seen my mammogram.
Then you have a final consultation and are on your way!
They refer all lumps so it's standard procedure, so being referred on the 2 week pathway doesn't mean it's cancer at all.
Very best of luck to you and your waiting will almost definitely be over soon as to wondering what it may be.

InferiorDesign · 21/09/2024 11:23

I am basically a lumpy bumpy woman - every routine mammogram finds something, every lump gets checked - doing everything in one day is normal, it’s a fab service. Mine have always been benign cysts or calcification.

foundalumpon · 24/09/2024 09:48

So, I've done quite well not worrying myself but the last two days i am getting anxious thinking but what if it is breast cancer ? I'm only 34, j keep telling myself that but that doesn't mean it don't happen does it.

When I run my fingers up either side of my breasts (the outside of them) the only way I can describe it is that I go over a speed bump on the one breast.

I had a weird shaped lump on my boob near my nipple. Got put on the two week path, went for assessment and an ultrasound, turned out to just be a swollen gland, perfectly normal. It’s always best to get it checked, just in case!

Yes I keep telling myself it's probably nothing. But I didn't help myself as I've just downloaded the referral form the gp sent off, she has ticked the boxes on the side that says "only use this side if you think it's LIKELY the patient has breast cancer" and now I'm absolutely shitting myself !!!

My referral form looked exactly the same, and I went into a panic too. They do that so that you can be seen as soon as possible, please don’t panic. It’s not always an indicator of the worst case scenario, your GP is just being responsible. Please do not stress OP. But please do get it checked for your own peace of mind.

foundalumpon · 24/09/2024 12:48

Hopefully it's just so you get seen quickly ? But then if they want you send quick isn't it because they think it could be something?

Ahh, really winding myself up today. Keep feeling for it and comparing boobs!!
