Coil is working but I'm feeling very down and anxious

I got the Mirena coil 2 years ago after having some polyps removed. Gynae recomended getting coil at this time to prevent recurrence of polyps - otherwise my cycle etc was fine.

After taking a few months to settle down, I haven't had a period now for 10 months, which is great. However, at the moment I've the most awful anxiety and it's getting me down - my body in a constant state of anxiety. I should say I've suffered with anxiety a few years ago too, but not this bad, for which I took mirtazapine, but I'm not on this now and I had side effects anyway from it.

I'm 49. I've no sweats etc Would it be time for HRT or at least a chat with doc yet?

Yes, sounds like you need some oestrogen to balance it. I prefer the gel as I’m in control of the dose. Not everyone gets sweats.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking, so maybe time to see GP. My mood is terrible and I feel on edge and lots annoying me!

Same situation here with mirena coil inserted at the same time as polyp removal. I have also suffered with anxiety over the years and after an ok spell, it then escalated. I was put on a low dose anti despressant (citalopram) which has improved things massively for me. I know a lot of people have issues with the suggestion of an anti depressant rather than HRT but it is doing the job and I don’t think HRT is without side effects or trial and error in getting the right type/dose level. My advice, don’t shut down the idea if the first route is trying an anti depressant over HRT.

I think I'd prefer to give HRT a try. I didn't do well on antidepressants before with side effects

I had a coil in and got HRT without a battle from a nurse specialising in menopause /the gp’s colleague ‘go to’ at my surgery. Also the surgeon who put the coil in started talking about patches only couple of months later when I’d requested a review. There has never been any mention of anti depressants. Having the coil removed was enough of an improvement for me.

I was previously a fibroid patient as to how I’d ended up with a coil and the only thing I’m cautious of is oestrogel can cause fibroid growth I’d read somewhere, whilst no medic have actually said this.
