Help! Bedbugs! How did you get rid of yours?

Milkandacookie · 15/09/2024 05:53

I've found out I've been somewhere that had bed bugs and have got quite anxious that I might have them now.

I thought it was unlikely but yesterday I had 4 bites all near each other.

I'm already going quite anxious reading about how hard it is to get rid of them. We have very little money or I'd just give an exterminator my bank card... I'm also aware anyone can buy a spray/heater and set themselves up so if we do have to pay someone it needs to work.

Has anyone ever had bedbugs? How did you get rid of them?

We have a small house and no garage so not a lot of working space.

I'm terrified.

Thanks.

Its frustrating one site says don't fumigate, use earth

Another site says don't spray

Another says don't use heat...

They are all concerned you just send them deeper into hiding I guess.

But if the fumigaying worked that sounds good. There's one near me that's talking about a way of spraying lots of droplets quickly

What do we think of these guys. I've messaged them but don't know price.

If its heat and spray and 6 months guarantee it's going to be expensive isn't it??

One lady said she could spray for 250 but she has said how it works depends on our ability to wash and hoover too and I want to know they're gone.

Oh if the heater rental is 500 it's going to be so expensive to babe them do it isn't it 😭.
I'm getting so anxious trying to work it all out and don't want them to keep spreading.

I have a new cluster of bites this morning. My husband hoovered the room again last night and the mattress and the bed frame and said he couldn't see anything.

Tonight we're going to steam the bed, tumble duvet for 30mins, wash bedding and put the interceptors on the feet.

I've got the DEarth but anxious about using it as don't want to be breathing it in but so want them dead. I was thinking doing it around edges of the room/cupboards but not sure i want to put it in the bed/mattress.

The David cane guy looks amazing but is in London.

Also treat luggage you took with you if that’s how you think you brought them home.
I go away frequently and I never put my suitcase on a bed, put it on a hard surface if possible or a chair if necessary. I leave all my clothes in my case.
Take bin bags. Everything I’ve worn goes into a bin bag, sealed before I come home and everything straight into washing machine when I get home.
I have a bedbug spray from Amazon and when I’m leaving I put the case outside ( or in shower or bath in a hotel) spray around the zip and the base and then leave the room immediately.

These guys finally got rid for us:

www.bed-bug-experts.co.uk

Get in a professional treatment now. Every day you don't treat the numbers grow and the harder and more expensive they are to eliminate: we had a HUGE infestation and it spread to every bedroom and took 7 months and £3k to get rid.

Please don't be us.

Milkandacookie · 17/09/2024 10:07

3000?!+!?!

I am already overdrawn 😭

OP posts:
Milkandacookie · 17/09/2024 10:12

Thanks Lostit I've messaged them but we're a couple of hours away so not their area but maybe they know who is good near me.

I'm already going a bit mad I think. And we're really struggling financially at the moment so really don't want to get it wrong.

We can't actually find any bugs.

I've put a detector down in the bed now but I feel I'm losing the plot. I'm awake at 4am googling alternate things that can bite you but having been in contact with bed bugs surely that's theost likely thing.

I'm now panicking theyre in the car/rest of house and not in my bed.

I'm also worried I might pass them to others...

Oh gosh Paul that was all the things I was going to try and do. 😭

I haven't a clue which professionals to get in. One lady does a spray for 250 but how do you know if they're good or not?

They will guarantee you that the bugs get gone. If they’re not gone AFTER the service you’ve paid for I’m sure they’ll come back.
Ive never had them but if I did I would absolutely get a professional in asap. I don’t think you’ll beat them on your own and it will be bloody awful emotionally. This thread is making me itch!!

Milkandacookie · 18/09/2024 05:45

Apparent there are lots of rogue traders out there so it's not clear who to get in exactly. They all seem to offer different things.

Also most don't guarantee they'll be gone (as see the pp had 3sprays as the plan) do theres not a clear answer.

I've woken up early paranoid about themand keep thinking every little sensation must be one.

We haven't seen one yet though to even start to treat and some places say don't spray.

I really could do with professional help near me. (the recommended ones are all London) as anyone can set up a website and take my money.

We're already overdrawn so it's not easy just to throw money at it unless u know it will work.

LostittoBostik · 18/09/2024 06:04

You need to go with a someone that comes with a guarantee. Ours had a 12 month one. They don't always go with one worst - you need a trader that acknowledges that and quotes to get rid, rather than per spray

Where are you located?

You won't see any with your eyes until it's really really bad. Trust me.
We didn't see any, but once we did we saw 20-30 per night.
The longer you leave it the more it will cost

Milkandacookie · 18/09/2024 06:08

South Coast. I've googled a few but they are different prices and different things.

One local lady does it for 250 but there wasn't much details/a website etc.

Another one called bed bug doctor I've emailed but not have a reply but that's heat treatment AND 2 sprays so is going to be lots isn't it.

I lie David cains site in London who seems to know his stuff but he is just London.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2010/06/pest_controllers.html

This suggests some come in and spray stuff but not properly.

I feel a bit overwhelmed.

20-30 a night?! Bloody hell.

Lots say it's illegal to treat/spray until they've seen them. I've put a trap down.

I want someone to sort it now.

Milkandacookie · 18/09/2024 07:20

So one charges 750 for a 3 bed house for sprays but 1200 for heat treatment.

Are they all this expensive?

And how do I know if they're the real deal.

I know the person whose flat I visited was ripped off more than once in the past and it's making me extra cautious to spend money until I know.

Got in pest control.
They sprayed.
Moved out for 2 nights.
I got rid of lots of stuff.
Binned it.
New bedding etc.
Always look behind picture Frames etc.

Hovered and professionally had carpet cleaned.
Deep cleaned entire house professionally.

Milkandacookie · 18/09/2024 07:40

Did the people doing the deep clean not mind the bugs? That sounds like very expensive.

I can't move our whole family out unfortunately and have v little money.

I'm amazed bugs aren't absolutely everywhere.

Did they only need to spray once? How did you choose one?

Gummybear23 · 18/09/2024 09:14

The company came once.
But house had to be vacated for 24 hours.
We vacated for 48 hours.

We dispose of items we could get rid of.

Once house had been done we hired a deep clean.
The house had been treated by the pest control by then.

Gummybear23 · 18/09/2024 09:15

I can't remember the treatment but the guys wore hazmat suits.

LostittoBostik · 19/09/2024 21:40

Heat treatment didn't work for us. Spray was better but it took a few.

Motherrr · 19/09/2024 21:42

Oh dear.. I feel for you. Boil your clothes! The little bastards

Alwayschangingthings · 19/09/2024 21:52

@peekabooooooooo1991 thats properly horrific. The fact they didn’t shut the unit down and let people come in with new borne and take them home knowing how much they stick and attack houses is just beyond.
