Kids waking me up

Kidskidskids24 · 14/09/2024 09:13

Both ds 8 & 9 woke me me up at 7.30 jumping about running up and down their room laughing talking loudly etc. Normally we are up at 6.30 so I guess 7.30 is a lay in . But I feel like they are old enough to find quite things to do and not wake me up ? Or am I just being lazy.

Yes lazy I think. That's a perfectly normal time for kids of that age to be up.

Nah I get it , when they have school they don't want to wake up but when they don't have school they are awake at 7!!!!

I wouldn’t class that as waking you up, as in they didn’t come into your room and deliberately wake you. They slept until 7.30, which is a decent enough time, then were just playing in their room and it happened to wake you. Expecting them to sit in silence and creep about is ridiculous.

That's so true 😅 they asked yesterday if it was school tomorrow ( today) I should have said yes bet they would have been very quite in the morning 😅

I didn't say they should be silent or creep around. But by the same token they don't Need to be running and jumping shouting etc.

I think that unless you've laid out some ground rules, you're being a bit unreasonable.

They were probably loving being up "alone" with no boring parents around to tell them off and just got over-excited.

Maybe say to them that they have to keep the noise down until you get up (or until a certain time) so until then they can watch TV or play quietly in their rooms.

That WOULD NOT be acceptable in my house. There is no situation where 7.30 is a lie in. They are more than old enough to get themselves a bowl of cereal and not be running around screaming. That's the behaviour of a 2 year old. But if you haven't laid down the ground rules, they won't know the expectations.

I agree with laying down ground rules. In our house, it has always been not allowed downstairs until 8 & play quietly or read until then. They then go & get their own simple breakfast (although this has taken a while to build up to & they are older).

It's tough at first but they will get there!

That's true i guess I have not Been clear it's not something they used to do. Come to think about it they mess about at bed time they never used to and the same in the morning they never used to thinking about it. Its been since I gave them their own room each .
