Selling on Vinted- any tips?

I need to have a huge clear out! Rather than the charity bin dd was going to try and sell my stuff to earn a few ££ for herself hopefully.

Can someone give us tips? Is it worth using Vinted? I also don't understand the postage? It says the buyer picks the courier and pays but how will they know how the weight etc of the parcel I'm sending.

Any advice appreciated.

As seller I
Photograph against a white wall unless the item is white.
I remove all but Evri as that's the only one near me.
I choose digital label so you don't need to print. The first time you do it ask for help in the shop.
Be honest about condition. If that dress has been worn and washed 30 times it's Good not Very good.
I save all packaging from my online purchases and reuse it.
I only list as brand new if I have never worn it, ever.
Be open to offers especially for bundles.
Remember that unlike ebay it's the buyer who pays the fees and postage so your £10 item will actually cost them nearer £15.

As a buyer I
Only buy if there are plenty of clear photos.
Never buy if they've just chucked a dress on a bed to photograph.
Only buy very good (I don't buy BNWT as I believe them likely stolen. Everyone denies this but I won't buy )
I always look at what else the seller has and make a bundle if possible. They always accept an offer for bundles.

Ive sold a few things recently. I view it as free money as realistically it's things I need out of the house that I would probably otherwise give away or recycle. Prices are low but it is very quick and easy to list so doesn't waste much time.

Use an iron please

If you can, also add the pit to pit measurement and length of a top. As sizing varies so much, it really helps.

Also, don't be tempted to spray with perfume. I've just bought a lovely wool jacket but the seller must have doused it with perfume before they sent it. I've had it hanging outside for two days as it's so strong. It wasn't even to mask any other smells, as there's no underlying smell of smoke or mustiness.

Thank you everyone-

With Evri or yodel do you still need another human (at the drop off) to do all the printing etc. is it ever a self serve machine.

I remember years ago as a young skint mum selling on eBay. I took a bag of parcels to the post office and the guy was so rude to me! I can't remember exactly what happened but he said he had no time to do it properly and would sort it later. I paid for all the postage and he sent it all away without attaching the labels. I had angry buyers contacting me for refunds and leaving negative reviews as it looked like I'd just kept all their postage costs.

Sorry that was a bit of a essay but I think I've got sellers ptsd from him making me feel like an inconvenience for sending so many parcels then all the angry buyers 🙈

My local Evri is in a Coop store. There's a machine that scans the bar code and prints the label. Not sure about Yodel but prob the same.

Evri often have self serve machines.
Yodel not as far as I'm aware so you'll need to show a code and assistant will print out a label for you.

I use DPD as that's the easiest option for me.

Item sells.
Press button to generate QR code.
Take to post office.
They scan QR code and print and attach label.

My InPost drop off is a food and wine, and many around us are, and our post office is an Evri drop off. People selling stuff and getting the labels via them is a core part of their business and totally normal to them. That’s probably been a big change since your bad experience. But some are lockers at petrol stations and shopping centres etc.

AtomicBlondeRose · 15/09/2024 09:54

I always use the InPost lockers - I have a printer so find it easiest to print my own labels and do it that way, because I can park right next to them and do it on my way to/from somewhere else. I don’t offer Yodel because even though I can send without a label, you have to go to a busy garage where the staff are grumpy and often have to queue. So it’d just what works for you.

The good thing as a seller is that whatever price you sell for is the amount you get. Buyer pays postage and I guess that’s where vinted make their money maybe?

I print my labels my self to avoid any mix up like this!

It's much easier if you have a printer.

I made £1400 on vinted and the printer cost £99 so well worth it.

I print them off and go to inpost lockers and scene them an put them in the box. Inpost lockers does bother inpost and Evri.

If I have loads of parcels it's a bit like whack a mole the game!

Runningupthecurtains · 15/09/2024 16:51

24 hours after I listed 5 items 3 have sold all for the full asking amount and the other two items have been favourited several times each.
I will be a little less generous on pricing with the next batch. I will dig through my wardrobe and the piles of out grown kids stuff and get a load washed /ironed and see how it goes.

olderbutwiser · 15/09/2024 16:57

I'm fairly new to Vinted

  • astonishingly easy to use - upload, sell, send, it's all virtually idiot-proof (as proven by me). Website is clear and full of instructions including what photos to take. Preselections for most things about the items. -ordinary stuff goes for low prices, or not at all. Decide how you feel about people who offer £8 for a £10 item (my strategy now is if it hasn't sold in a fortnight I'll take an offer even though I think "really?").
