Between Eastenders and Coronation Street, which feels more “quintessentially English” in the sense that they represent what you think of when you imagine England?

To me, Corrie because I’m NorthWest born & bred. I’m sure SouthEasterners would say Eastenders. Others regions would vary in their opinions

It depends if you grew up in similar places, I expect.

I think they both feel like caricatures. But PP raises a good point, I don't identify with either because I'm not from either.

So am I. EastEnders bears no resemblance to anywhere that I am familiar with. I would therefore regard Corrie as more "English"

Neither. As a South Londoner, both represent places that are equally foreign to me.

[NB: for your true Southerner, "the North of England" starts at the Thames.]
