I haven't used a credit card for years but am getting one for a planned trip overseas next month and the credit card company have asked for the usual things, but then as part of final checks they need a photo of my passport. Is this normal/legit?

Not normal for any of the cards I have.

What's the credit card company?

As part of ID checks, yes. I had to do it recently for NatWest.

Yes, biometric ID checks. You upload a photo of passport or driving license and a selfie.

You're effectively applying for an unsecured loan. The provider wants to be sure it'll get its money back.

I've got credit cards coming out of my ears for the balance free transfers and interest free bonus periods. The last few have either asked for a picture or used a third party provider to ask for the details. One was called HooYu which I thought was quite funny.

Even NatWest, who I bank with, asked for it.

It's just an identity check and nothing to worry about if you have gone with a provider you've never heard of.

It’s usually a part of “Know Your Customer” legislation, so yes, it’s a pretty usual request.

Yep, literally had to do this yesterday!
