How do I get mica powder out of a carpet?!?!

DD opened the little tub of sparkly black mica powder she got with her Luna Lovegood tattoo kit. DD spilt the little tub of sparkly black mica powder she got with her Luna Lovegood tattoo kit. Cat walked through spillage. My hoover, along with vigorous dry brushing, have achieved all they can but we still have murky grey splodges across the carpet.

What next?! 😬

Hire a carpet cleaner or borrow a vax if you know anyone who has one?

I would try sellotape and see if that can lift any more of the powder before trying anything wet.

Sellotape has helped a bit, but to get anything up I really need to work it in and I'm getting a fluffy patch as it brings a lot of fibres with it when I pull it off! So I don't want to carry on too much with this. Bit nervous about going in with anything wet - but has anyone ever tried on something of similar texture?

I would try to avoid wetting it as much as possible.

Could you try one of those lumps of computer keyboard cleaning play doh type things which will have more surface area than the sellotape?

MissCherryCakeyBun · 12/09/2024 13:48

It sounds daft but have you tried putting some in an area out of sight and trying different ways of getting it out? That way you can try without having a nightmare if wet makes it worse etc.

Also cornflour rubbed in gently and the hoovered out? Works on eyeshadow and similar powders

KeyboardMash · 12/09/2024 19:53

I tried bicarb rubbed in and hoovered up: useless. I tried isopropyl alcohol - worked on the velveteen chair she'd also got it on, but not on the carpet. Had ago with washing up liquid, flushed with a lot of water, then dabbed as dry as I could get it - this one was pretty good! Slight shadow if you're looking for it, but not really noticeable now.

It would have been eminently more sensible if I had tried all the above, as suggested, on an experimental spot under her bed - but apparently that's not how I roll. 😬

Great! Glad you've had some success.
