I just had a nap and feel much worse

I always feel worse, I am not a natural napper. DH can put his head down and get up again 45 mins later feeling great, but I just feel nauseous and only marginally less tired. DD naps all the time and still sleeps fabulously at night, I'm very envious. She once even had a nap under a tree on a hot day while on a school trip, she is the human version of the poem 'Cats sleep anywhere'.

We all had a bad night. We have an old house alarm that came with the house. We haven't actually used it for over a decade and it has decided to go off intermittently usually with months between every occasion. Except for last night when it went off four or five times between midnight and 6.30 am. I can't get anyone to decommission it.

Naps usually make me feel worse too

LucyLocketLovesPollyPocket · 11/09/2024 19:15

I feel you, if I nap I just feel irritable and foggy for so long afterwards. Its not worth it.

GalileoHumpkins · 11/09/2024 19:16

My brain feels like mashed potato after a nap.

I just woke up from one, not sure what year it is. I've cracked napping though I think, they used to make me feel dreadful.

I used my Fitbit to work out how long an average sleep cycle for me is, then if I want a nap I set an alarm for one whole sleep cycle (about 90 mins for me). Waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle is what'll leave me feeling like a bag of shite, if I time it right to wake up when I'm naturally in my lightest sleep phase, I feel great!

CapitanSandy · 11/09/2024 19:19

Ugh hate that groggy feeling. A cup of tea and a snack/dinner helps

This. Either learn your cycle, or let yourself wake up naturally (usually around 90 mins for me too) if you have time. I have CFS so have lot of experience in much needed napping.

If I wake up at the wrong point in the cycle I'm done for the rest of the day. Feeling horrendous. That happened yesterday. Today I didn't set an alarm and felt rested after the nap.

CalicoPusscat · 11/09/2024 19:43

I have nap fog as well at present, @BlackAmericanoNoSugar. Got home and flopped out.

Perhaps we'll perk up tomorrow?

HÆLTHEPAIN · 11/09/2024 19:45

I’m quite often the same but having ME/CFS, I often don’t have any choice in napping and it’s awful.

HangingOver · 11/09/2024 19:46

Agree, 90 mins-ish. Wake up feeling renewed. And I sleep normally at night too. I'm just a sleepy person 😁

coxesorangepippin · 11/09/2024 19:58

Naps don't work

Like drugs

EmeraldRoulette · 11/09/2024 20:01

Sorry for you OP

you can’t get anyone to decommission it?

Funkyslippers · 11/09/2024 20:04

I wish I could nap! I just can't sleep during the day so I rarely try as I just get more frustrated with myself

LadyGrey33 · 11/09/2024 20:10

90 minutes!

20 mins for me

BrendaSmall · 11/09/2024 20:18

I can’t do naps!
A lady I used to work with, she’d have 15/20 minutes nap and ping back to life, like she’s had a full night sleep, I’m one of those that when I sleep I sleep deep, and nothing can wake me, doesn’t help that I’m very hard or hearing so I don’t hear much!
On our last holiday I went to sleep whilst on the plane and the man next to me was very concerned as he tried to talk to me to wake me as he wanted to get past me, 🤣🤣 my husband was shaking me to wake me up 🤣🤣
if I nap I feel rubbish

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 11/09/2024 20:23

I really struggle to sleep in the day unless I'm actually unwell so if I've had a bad night's sleep and no chance of a lie in, I just have to accept feeling a bit rubbish all day . I tell myself I'll just have an early night - but always get a burst of energy around 9 pm !

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/09/2024 20:25

A short nap on a weekend pm makes me feel amazing.I have a snack when I wake up it makes me feel "normal" again

Sorry for you OP

I've been ringing around a few different companies. The company that originally installed it only do commercial property work now, other places only deal with what they installed or will decommission if they are installing a new system.

On the positive side, while it's very loud inside, the outside box barely makes any noise so at least we don't have a sleepless night AND complaints from the neighbours.

My SIL has a nap every single day for an hour or two. She's even been known to take herself off to our bedroom when she visits. All OHs family are good at sleeping. V jealous!

spiderlight · 11/09/2024 20:46

Sympathy! It's a horrible feeling. If I fall asleep during the day, the entire rest of the day is a write-off and I usually have a migraine the following day as a bonus 🙄

Evenstar · 11/09/2024 20:55

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar regarding the alarm, I found an electrician who was willing to decommission our old alarm which was giving us similar issues. I tried several alarm companies including the one that installed it and had no luck.

EmeraldRoulette · 11/09/2024 22:11

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar I might be wildly off here but I thought maybe an electrician could remove the connection. It wouldn’t be a full uninstall but I was thinking it would at least solve the problem of it going off.

WhatMe123 · 11/09/2024 22:18

Eugh I am not a napper either, I feel groggy, a bit sick, more tired and all hot and cold at the same time after a nap. Much prefer to power on until bed time. However dp swears by them and will have a 20-30 nap quite a lot and feel much better for them 😬

WildWildWestCoast · 11/09/2024 22:21

30 minutes is my magic number. Any longer than that and I feel like garbage.

Cece92 · 11/09/2024 22:30

I was on grand parent duties until very late last night. Then was up at half 6 for school run and work. Ended up taking a half day. Finally dozed off about 4ish and in came the baby elephant that is my DD. Her dad dropped her off early by 2.5 hours. Anyway she ended up pottering about and I dozed off into a rather deep nap and I could have Easily slept all night but jumped out of bed about 5.30 and have felt rotten since. I've felt more tired since then xxx

Halloumiheaven · 11/09/2024 22:41

I love sleep and bed 😄
I used to nap habitually on my days off for around 2 hours. It started to become a really bad habit to be honest and I ended up wasting time when I should have been doing things.

So, I have got out of the habit , but occasionally indulge myself with one as a treat 😂(I'm easily pleased) but find you've got to hit that 'sweet spot' - keep it under an hour, say 30-45 mins, so you're kind of 'dozing' not full on sleeping. Anymore than that and I think you fall into too deep of a sleep and wake up headachey/muzzy and unsure who you are, let alone fit to crack on!

But I am one of those 'sleepy/always tired ' people 😄i could close my eyes for a matter of seconds and I'm away!
