Dry robes for cold water swimming

I have started cold water swimming with friends this year. They are more experienced than me. I did buy a Regatta dry robe which seemed great at first but having used it a couple of times to change under I have realised that it isn’t really roomy enough, the hood is too small and is isn’t very water proof.
I am prepared to invest in something a bit more high end. I hate the cold- so the swimming is a challenge for me. I need a dry robe that gets me warm( as well as all the other things I need to get me warm of course)and is waterproof rather than water repellant and with a huge hood.
what brands can you recommend?
Thanks 🙂

My DryRobe is completely waterproof and warm. I hate the dryrobe logo on the back though - feel like a walking billboard. I bought it back at the start of covid when everyone else wanted one too and before all the other companies came out with versions.

I think I'd go for a Red robe https://red-equipment.co.uk/collections/pro-change-robes next time. They don't have huge logos and look a lot less bulky. Although, I say "next time" but I think my dryrobe will probably outlast me tbh.

I've got a Red one and it is definitely waterproof and warm. I don't actually think Dryrobes in general are all that great for getting changed under though, I use a hooded towel and then have my coat on after

I’ve got one, it’s not big enough to easily change under, you can take off your wet stuff and I chuck some joggers on fine but it’s a bit more complex when it comes to the top half, usually involves actions similar to a turtle retreating into its shell and then wrangling with sleeves etc underneath to put something else on 😂
I tend to just stick my dry robe on, whip off my wet stuff and drive home like that.

I have a DryRobe. I don't use it to change under, I get too cold with the faffing. Much quicker change without it, then warm up in it.

It is properly warm and dry for Yorkshire moorland winters!! I had a Charlie McLeod before , which was useless in anything heavier than drizzle. All my swimming companions wear DryRobes or Red robes.

Thanks! I do need a hooded towel- chucked mine away years ago as I vowed never to get in cold water again after the kids had grown .
I have my birthday at the end of the month so might ask for funds towards one. I think I would go for the red robe because of the dry robe logo.
thanks for the tips about getting changed too🙂

I have a couple - a By Betty Blue (which is absolutely gorgeous but not terribly warm) and a Smoc Smoc half zip (very windproof and waterproof but I do find the bamboo terry sticks to me when I'm wet). Ds has a Wild Moose which has a lovely cosy lining and is waterproof. My preferred really cold changing method is a towelling dryrobe to actually change under and then my Smoc Smoc over that once I've removed cossie and pulled on a vest (from the bottom up) and fleece pyjama bottoms.
