Bedding - possibly the most exciting thread ever*

*but probably not.

I want a nice throw for my super king bed. One that'll hang over the sides and look cosy, opulent even. But all the ones I can find are too narrow and look rubbish.

So hit me with your suggestions.

For reference, it needs to be AT LEAST 200cm wide.

I’m adding ours for warmth not look. They will cover the whole bed up to the pillows.

We have a woolen winter duvet on all year, but it isn’t super thick. So save swapping them out I will just add the thick bedspread on over the top and can layer blankets in between if needed

RosyappleA · 12/09/2024 18:43

I cannot have a bed without a bedspread, the bed feels naked. Especially with kids whose handprints end up everywhere and who like jumping on the bed. It sort of protects it and still keeps the duvet feeling fresh when we take the bedspread off at night. Even my friend with a dog says it is so handy because of this. It is also quite firm so doesn’t indent much, say if I am doing laundry and sorting it out and throw it all on the bed. Not to mention the room is instantly tidy and put together as I match it to the curtains or a rug.

The john lewis ones are magnificent but slightly out of my budget so I got some from soak and sleep in 100% cotton last year.

I wish there were more with pillow shams too. I love them for my second set of pillows that we use for sitting up, reading etc.

Can I ask, do people use these for extra warmth, or are they mostly to look nice? Just curious.

Summer - so it looks nice.
Winter - extra layer when it's bloody freezing 🥶

The JL one is absolutely beautiful! Can I ask you is it heavy and is it machine washable?

I should not have come to this thread (says my bank manager.)

Want oppulent? Then you must buy an Yves Delorme Comforter. Pricey, but the best you can buy.

Oooh, look! 280x250, only fifteen hundred nicker 😳 It looks gorgeous, though!

I'm not sure they should shorten couvre lit on their website...

(Also, why does it say polyester when the description says cotton? I'd be very unimpressed spending that money on polyester.)

Doesn't anything sateen just slip off the bed if it's heavy?

EBearhug · 13/09/2024 09:07

I have silk sheets, and they are more slippery than cotton, but not sliding-off slippery, just wonderfully smooth.

It does mean even good quality cotton now feels a bit rough in comparison...

I covet this Fired Earth M&S one but I can't justify the cost https://www.marksandspencer.com/cotton-rich-throw/p/hbp60625895

Edited

I have this! Same as yourself I couldn’t justify it initially but I kept thinking about it so gave in! It IS gorgeous, soft, lovely colour, heavy but not ridiculously so… BUT no way would it look right on a superking, it’s just not big enough sadly. It is however big enough to wrap around yourself and hibernate in, which is perfect for me 🤣

Oh I really want it now 😭 but I have a cat who likes to jump on the bed so I think it would end up being a constant source of stress.

Your cat deserves the best...

LBOCS2 · 13/09/2024 10:28

I have a wool carthen in modern colours (greens and greys) from Welsh Otter on ours.

We use it as an extra layer - I like the weight it gives to the blankets too, I always sleep better in the winter with them on.

Oh that’s a tough one! It’s quite a thick linen type blend, the sort that would be a cat hair magnet and difficult to wash 😫 but it’s just about my favourite purchase of the year, I’d probably still have bought it if I had a cat to be honest 😂

I wish they did it in other colours. A dark, muted green would be lovely, and would hide the car fur.
