Interview nerves - how do you deal with them?

Hi all, NC for this but I need some help dealing with interview nerves.
I have an interview in a few days but I get so nervous beforehand. They get so bad that I've often cancelled interviews because I can't go through with them.

I'd welcome any tips you have on dealing with nerves! TIA

Prepare. Get some questions online and say your answers out loud. It will help your brain feel more in control. Go for walks to calm nervous system. Rescue remedy. And tell yourself ‘it’s great that I get to do this. They are lucky to meet me’

You could also tell the interviewers that you are feeling nervous

What is it about the interview that is making you nervous?
You just don’t like interviews?

Are you prepared? Practiced etc

Propanolol

Calms you right down

Try and get to the point where it doesn’t matter to you whether you get it or not. (I know not easy! But it gives a sense of freedom)

Also have a good talk with yourself about how they’d be daft NOT to employ you. (The most confident/arrogant person I have ever worked with told me this but I think it can give a sense of confidence!)

I take Propanolol. It sounds drastic but I’ve got offered 4 roles from the last 4 interviews I attended. It enables me to think, breathe and answer the question, I do find it lowers my blood pressure a lot so I would not recommend taking it for the first time just before an interview.

I could never do interviews. Even if I'd rehearsed answers, my mind would go blank. I can't think on my feet either so if I got a question I couldn't answer I'd just sit in silence .

I wish they wouldn't place so much emphasis on interviews. I've worked with so many people who sailed through interviews but were utter shite at the job whereas some of us are the opposite.

Thanks everyone. I don't know why I get like this as I'm prepared and I know I can do this job. I wasn't going to say but I actually cancelled this interview once before and they've given me another date - I don't know if that makes it better or worse :)

Preparation, practice answering generic questions, more practice, more preparation. Loads of research into the company, practice sentences where you are showing you’ve done your research. Last of all, imagine they are sitting there naked.
