Alternatives to waxing?

I’ve been going for Hollywood waxes every 5-8 weeks for the best part of 2.5 years now.

I have very sensitive skin and it always leaves my skin down there feeling tender and red. Then when the hair grows back it gets all spotty and itchy. I don’t think it’s any good for my skin and also the place I go to is pretty pricey.

However shaving is no good for me either.. so I’m thinking my last option is hair removal cream? I am not gonna lie though, I am bit nervous to use this incase I have a bad reaction…

So, any recommendations for sensitive hair removal cream? Or other hair removal methods? I don’t really want to pay for laser hair removal treatment (yet)!

Epilation.

But it is bloody painful between the legs TBH.

Shaving is at least quick and cheap.

I do IPL and it's amazing - genuinely! I also use specific products that work against ingrown hairs etc and it makes it so much easier. Really recommend IPL!

@mushpush is that laser treatment which you do yourself?

Yes it's an at home version of it - I genuinely recommend it to everyone!

Why not just let the hair grow out? Once it's no longer just breaking through the skin, it'll stop being itchy and become soft. Then just trim it with scissors.

You can’t trim right down to the skin though for a smooth finish.

Go natural. It's much healthier

I’m can’t recommend salon laser removal enough. I faffed about for years and tried the at home IPL but nothing compares to professional laser for hair removal

MagpiePi · 09/09/2024 19:01

Why not accept that removing the hair from your genitals is painful and/or expensive, and stop doing it?

What device do you use? They're so expensive 🤦🏻‍♀️

Beefholahoops · 09/09/2024 19:07

I trim really really short with my electric lady razer.
It doesn't irritate my skin.
No rashes no redness or itching.
Never like the bald look or feel done it once and it was awful.
I ended up with a huge boil.
And itch I was raw I was begging for the bush back😂
My GP at the time said to trim only don't shave or wax again.
I will be honest I feel more of an adult woman down there with some brissle.
Everyones different but omg the boil was huge.

OP there's no law stating that you need to remove your pubic hair. The whole process sounds awful for you with sensitive skin then the unsightly regrowth.

ramonaquimby · 09/09/2024 19:18

Yeah just keep it trimmed short. I've not had a wax for about 20 years! No complaints from DH

I looked at them but they don’t work on blonde hair.

autumn1610 · 09/09/2024 19:39

Well clearly the op prefers to remove her hair and if anything like me it actually irritates me so much now. I would suggest getting a serum I use a Gillette Venus one that really helps as I’m super sensitive too and it really calms it down and helps with ingrown hairs

How much did it cost and how many sessions did you need, if you don’t mind saying? Will you need to go back every few years to prevent regrowth?

i just trim with an electric trimmer but I’m so sick of the maintenance. I’d love at least the bits at the sides to be permanently gone.

mushpush · 09/09/2024 20:07

@xyz111

I use the Philips lumea one - expensive but bought it at a John Lewis sale from memory!

@Battlerope

Ah yes they need a good contrast to be able to work - I'm pale with very dark hair so a perfect candidate, it's less effective with less of a contrast I believe!
