Particularly interested in low budget ideas!

You have to define low budget ?
For mine I got him an ancestry kit for dna
( just under £80 ) it will give him a break down of his ethnicity plus matches of people that share part of the same dna.
Obviously it has the possible threat of discovering he's not who he thinks he is.
I also did mine plus took out a subscription with them so can do family trees and found out some interesting stuff about ancestors going back to 1700s or so.
Great if he enjoys history etc .

I have him a knife-making workshop at a blacksmith, which he loved. Cost for £200, so expensive if your budget is £50 but cheap if you're thinking low-budget is under £500 (you can never tell around here!)

Dh would absolutely love that! I noticed someone else talking about it recently and maybe it would stop me having to watch every single episode of "forged in fire"
God I hate that show.
But in the rural north of Scotland I can never find places that do these workshops!

Where did your DH go for his?

A fancy outdoor kit box that he’d had his eye on for ages.

https://boneyardlondon.com/ - he loved it and we still use the knife he made!

Thanks that's so cool. Only 600 miles away tho...

Better get googling for a workshop near us. I'm excited to have a gift in mind for him in January as he's SO hard to buy for!

Thank you

An olive tree and a handmade kitchen knife.

There were a couple of places that offered
similar experiences at a Christmas Fayre that I went to last year. This was in South Wales so not much help to you but it does show that there are more places than we might realise. Happy searching!

Not low budget sadly, but dh and I were 50 in the same year but at opposite ends of it, so we went away for a week to the highlands of Scotland.

Low budget for him I would have probably cooked his favourite meal. Maybe something that is a better version of something your dh loves? For our silver wedding anniversary I bought my dh a polished stainless steel French press as he loves fresh coffee. We had a cheap glass and metal one from the supermarket, so this was an upgrade for him and it has been used every day for the past 4 years.

cityrookie · 09/09/2024 14:30

Not sure making his own knife would be his thing, although I will suggest it to a friend for her DH!

£200 is my absolute maximum.
