Hi

I fell from a highly yesterday. I was holding something so went down on to both bent arms and knees. The fall made quite a loud noise making people gasp, just to illustrate the force.

At the time it hurt a bit but nothing excessive. I definitely had adrenaline pumping due to the height.

Later it seemed to get more noticeable especially on one arm and a few big bruises formed in various places.

Both arms are sore but one in particular is the worst. I have quite a high pain tolerance. It's not excruciating but it's sore and radiating from my wrist and elbow down my fingers. I can move my fingers, hand and arm fine. I can make a fist. It's all sore when I do but again not outrageous. I can't grip anything hard, for example I can't lift a pan or open a jar. It's not the pain it's just my grip feels to weak. When I rest it's just a full ache. There is a small amount of swelling and bruising round the wrist and elbow.

Would you get it checked out. I don't want to waste peoples time if it's just a bad bruise. I'd be embarrassed to go to hospital if it turned out to be nothing. I have never been to hospital with an injury before. I don't know how bad it would need to be for people to go. It's not bothering me, I can just ride it out, it's just the grip thing that makes me wonder. My dh said he would not be surprised if it was broken with the force I went down with and straight onto a concrete surface.

Advice most welcome

no one can see your bones from the outside.
go and get checked. you need an xray.
sometimes minor injuries do them.

CatsLikeBoxes · 08/09/2024 21:04

Yes I would. Have you got a minor injuries place with x-ray facilities you can go to?
You can always call 111 or do the online version if you're doubtful.

I would go and get the wrist checked out, falling onto an arm is a risk of wrist fracture and a higher risk in older ladies who may have an element of osteoporosis.
some fractures are more of a massive crack , meaning there would be no obvious deformity if you looked at it.
You have nothing to loose by getting it checked out, if it is not broken and more of a bad sprain they can often supply a removable wrist support for comfort.

Thank you. I am going to see how it is tomorrow morning and go along to minor injuries if my grip still hasn't improved. I hate making a fuss and wasting people time. I don't want people to think I'm being a drama queen
