recommendations for car insurance cover for university holidays only

Any suggestion for car insurance for uni holidays only? We are trying to reduce cost of car insurance as not taking the car to uni so reduced mileage and days driven. Thank you

If they need a policy in their name you just say they'll be doing 3000 miles a year rather than 10,000 and it's parked at the home address. I don't think aside from just being named on yours you can do anything else.
No claims is an annual thing so they need to be on a policy for 12 months don't they?

You can get short-term policies. We've been looking for learner driver insurance (which is obviously different) but I'm sure when I looked there were some providers that insure you for set periods of time. Can't recall which, but we looked at RAC and Marnalade.

Temporary driver on your insurance as named driver
Marmalade - buy miles as named driver
Veygo - another temporary option as named driver - as little as a few hours

But do the temporary ones offer any advantage?
I guess they are similar to car rental type policies. The kids want policies in their own name so they gave a fighting chance of a no claims discount. Otherwise it would normally be cheaper to get them put on your insurance. Uni holidays are long (
a long Easter break, June, July, August, September, most of December and a couple of weeks in January)

I was thinking 3 weeks at xmas, 4 weeks at easter and 3 months in summer but minus maybe a month travelling. all very unknown though as it is first year. Room is paid for xmas and easter so may not come home for whole time.

Our experience is it is usually cheaper to keep them on for the year than 'on off'.

Alternatively, don't put them on and then any day they want to drive, they weigh up if it is cheaper for them to pay for the day or get an uber or a bus.
