DIY neighbours

We have these neighbours a few doors up and I think they are doing some form of work in a summerhouse or garden. For the last 2 years, nearly every weekend it’s been constant hammering and sawing, power tools etc. It’s like living next to a building site. The guy is doing it by himself and fair play he is trying but I mean, surely we are entitled to a bit of a break sometimes from it so we can enjoy our gardens.

We are all privately owned so can’t report to housing associations etc or landlords….and I don’t really want to approach them if I’ve got no comeback.

Is there any legal way of getting them to STFU? Even it’s just once in a while?

Report to your local council's environmental health department

I did think that at first but I think I’ve established that’s not the case. That would have been as easy one.
I think I’ll have to write a letter just explaining that it’s too much. It’s even some nights in the week too. I’ll have to hope they take it on board but if there’s no improvement I think the more formal stage with the council is the appropriate route.
They have put planning in (which has been approved) that their direct neighbour put in objections to, and I do wonder whether some of that was because of the noise they create. It must be so much worse for them.

As long as it’s within social hours, I really don’t think there is much to complain about tbh

Nearly every weekend for 2 years? Constant power tools. Banging? Everyone has a right to enjoy their garden and space.

imagine wanting friends over for a get together or chat on the patio and you can’t even have a conversation because it’s constantly drowned out by circular saws and stihl saws etc.

I could live next door to you and play loud music every day between 7am and 11pm….would you think that’s morally ok and you’d just live with that?
