Just recently, we were on holiday in Europe and we went to a very well known "posh" cafe for coffee and cake as a special treat.

While we were there, we got talking to a very lovely couple from a central Asian country on the table just next to us. We chatted for maybe 10-15 minutes, and then they were ready to get their bill and go. Much to my surprise, they then insisted on paying for our bill too. I was bowled over by their kindness and amused by the slightly confused look on the waiter's face.

It got me thinking about other random acts of kindness that I have experienced from strangers. One that sticks in my mind is an American guy that I met at King's Cross tube station around 12 years ago. I was travelling to Heathrow airport to catch a long haul flight with my young daughter. We had left home with loads of time to spare, but there was a major problem with the tubes that day and there were no trains. Initially, I was unpeturbed as I had built in a significant buffer, but it gradually became apparent that the tubes just weren't going to be up and running any time soon, and I was starting to panic about whether we were going to get there. The American guy (who I had been chatting to on the platform while waiting) suddenly said that he would call us a taxi to Heathrow and he insisted on paying for it. So incredibly kind!

Please tell me your stories about the kind things that complete strangers have done for you! I am inspired to spread the kindness to others!

Can I just add another... Tonight Wilf went to the NTA Awards. On the tube home someone was taken ill and there was a chance he was going to miss the last train.
Two lovely ladies called Michelle and Sue took him off the tube at Canary Wharf and took him all the way to Victoria and saw him on to his train.
Such lovely kind ladies... ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

The kind group on Facebook. I just got to the vets to have my darling boy cat PTS and my phone pinged
It was a PayPal donation they had done of enough money to clear his vet bill, pay for individual cremation and his ashes back
Took a huge weight off my mind

There have been a number of challenges in my life, and some true acts of kindness I will never forget.

Right now the Dutch health insurance bureaucracy have decided that as an English person in receipt of a disability benefit I an not entitled to any Dutch heath insurance, and as I live with a serious long term illness I can't get international insurance. Paying privately is not an option as everything works through insurance here. I have no access to health care right now and the organisations I deal with have closed their services.

But my doctor, who ought to also shut his books to me, rang me on monday to say that if I need care then to come anyway and he will see and treat me for free. This means so so much, not only physically but also that someone is so kind.

It’s no surprise to me that there are already two examples from Japan - I’ve never known kinder people. My examples would be too outing bc I’ve told them to too many people 🥰

I found the kindest people to be in Newcastle. First time ever I visited this year, a random woman paid for a sandwich in a shop at the station, several people helped me pass the time waiting for my friend’s train to arrive with lovely cheerful chat. Then, at the end of our brief visit, a guy came up and asked us if we would give him money. Spun us some sob story. I was walking away, and my friend (who has a heart of gold) is giving him her last £5 note. I go back and say to the guy “No, she’s a single parent to a disabled kid, she’s not giving you her money!” People, he not only gave her money back, he apologised and chatted for ages. He was quite the comedian and had us in fits. Really feel-good vibe about the whole city.

Back in the mid 80s I was 17 and my boyfriend had a little MG midget. We were on our way out for a drive one evening waiting at a junction when a car sped round the corner and smashed into the side of us, the driver reversed out of the smash and drove off at speed. The car travelling behind him didn't stop but sped off as well.
We were not injured but were extremely shook up, I went over to a nearby bus stop to ask if anyone had the registration number but no luck.
We were just wondering what to do next when a car pulled up. It was the car that had been following the speeding car.
He happened to be an off duty police officer and had followed the car and noted the number and the address where it had stopped. He invited us back to his nearby house to call our parents (no mobile phones then).
His wife welcomed us, made us a cuppa and gave me a brandy.
They were apologetic that they couldn't do more for us because they had just had a bereavement and were just about to set off on a road trip to be with their family.
They were good to us youngsters that night despite their own troubles and I've never forgotten their kindness.
