Really dumb question about selling on Ebay and vinted

i am trying to make some extra money at the moment to afford to divorce. I have a lot of clothes and bags that I would like to sell on vinted, eBay etc. I’m aware I’m going to have to put them on at very good prices. How do I do this and keep shipping costs down to make sure I can still make a profit from them? How do people sell things for £2 and then ship them? Or does the shipping get added on top when the buyer buys? Who does the calculation of the cost?

told you it was a stupid question

Shipping is paid by the buyer in Vinted

On vinted the buyer pays shipping.
Save bags or boxes to package. Buy sellotape and parcel tape

With vinted the buyer pays for p&p on top of what price you list the item for

On Vinted make sure to price just above what you'd be prepared to accept because even if you price low, someone will try to haggle the price down further. Don't be afraid to reject daft offers.

On Vinted, go to your settings and select the postage options you have available for buyers. I personally only use evri as it’s so easy, print label in store to fix to package and drop there. And you get tracking updates. With Royal Mail, the buyer still pays but they don’t pay up front like they do with other options, so when they check out if it’s evri or inpost, they purchase the shipping at the same time. You just select the parcel size and Vinted put the price on, so you don’t lose out but you can’t add £5 extra to postage for a profit for example.

eBay when you list an item, you select the postage option, so Royal Mail, evri, etc and set the price yourself and this what the buyer pays at checkout. If you undersize the parcel (so you thought it was small but it’s actually medium sized when you get to the post office, so you charged less) you lose out, I find Vinted a bit easier as it spells out the size of the parcel whereas eBay you have to look it up. Generally I charged what postage was, eBay had a massive clampdown not so long back on people trying to rip buyers off with postage by putting it at a massive markup.

I keep any postage bags/boxes from anything I order and use these to post my items. I sometimes but grey mailing bags off eBay which you can get at a decent price if I run out. I used to use Royal Mail all the time but have switched to evri as cheaper, easier and quicker delivery and the digital label you can print in a drop off store saves so much time.

I wouldn't sell on Vinted, I think eBay has much better protection for both the buyer and the seller. Vinted also seems to be more for low cost items to me.

Another tip - if you decide to use Royal Mail only use the signed for option, as it will show it’s been delivered and provide tracking, whereas standard post doesn’t, this stops buyers opening cases saying their item hasn’t arrived and getting a refund.

Very limited knowledge but with ebay I think its more common to include postage in the price. You get offers for free or reduced listings but I think you have to be an established seller for that. Also figure out the cheapest courier - sometimes its Evri sometimes its Royal Mail, depends on the item.
