I could have sworn I lived in this University city for 3 years - so why couldn't I really remember it when I went back...after 34 years!

DS and I recently were in the area of my old University city - so we had a look at the campus and then drove into town. Campus has changed a lot - more development. But when we were in town, I couldn't really remember it much.

It's a historic city. Obviously been development since I was there but not too much. Yet, I couldn't really remember it.

Yet I lived there for 3 years. I went into the town quite a bit. I obviously knew it quite well back then.

But it was 1988 - 91. So a long time ago.

Has anyone else lived anywhere but completely forgotten its layout after a long time when you went back?

I have no idea what I had for even a single dinner at home at University.

I remember being in Lidl and Tesco. I remember breakfasts. I remember lots of snacks. I remember enough noodles to fill the O2. I remember washing up pots and pans.

But not a single memory of cooking or eating a main meal, or even a rough idea of what I ate for them.

It's weird, isn't it? You'd think being away from home for the first time you'd remember things like organising your washing. Where did I dry it? I don't remember tumble driers.
The more I think about it the more I think I just didn't do any washing 😂

I've got a DC about to start uni and all she's worried about at the moment is food and laundry, so I presume it must have crossed my mind at some point too, but perhaps it just crossed it and went quickly out the other side?

Glad it's not just me. Went back to university city after 30 years could barely find my way round.

Same with my d home town I left at 18...even though it's changed a lot and gone downhill....could barely find my way round.

I suppose it was a very long time ago

Thinking back to 1989.

Bedding was provided by halls.

Terms were 10 weeks with half term after 5. So probably I took my washing home as I had 30 pants and socks? Parents picked me up in their car.

I do recall the laundrette in year 2/3. But i probably didn't bother more than once a term and coped with bedding washed every holiday.

I did work at university town for years after some university but the university part was miles from the student part. I did do a revisit of some university pubs 10 years ago which was fun.

I remember doing laundry in halls. My flat mate and I soon worked out that the best time to go was when the rest of campus was getting bladdered in the union listening to crap pop music Grin
