Nursery question

Hi,

I just want to ask those of you who have or had a child in nursery whether you ever find hair that does not belong to you/your child at home.
I have been finding (a few) hair that does not belong to anyone in our house and no recent guests either. This is since after starting nursery but perhaps I just did not notice before.

Please could you tell me if his happened to you?

Hair? Presumably it's come from the carer or child? Do you just mean a couple of strands?

hoarahloux · 07/09/2024 18:25

I'm an early years practitioner and my hair is always tied back.

A single hair or two from a practitioner could easily transfer from practitioner to child to home.

Is this an idea that you thought of or one your DP/DH suggested?

Not that I've ever noticed no. The nursery staff always had their hair tied back which I assume most do to stop children from playing with it

What is your concern?

I thought of this. I found one couple months ago and then two this week.
One day a few weeks ago I noticed when I picked up my baby and came home he had a long blonde hair in his hand like tangled to his fingers, so I am thinking they might just be transfered like that but it is making me a bit paranoid that it happened quite a few times

Hehe it's more because we are all petrified of headlice!

edit: and for hygiene reasons of course. It's in most standard nursery policies that long hair needs to be tied back. But mostly the headlice thing

@Sjaodojebevsjj why would it make you paranoid?
Paranoid about what?
Babies and toddlers crawl all over each other and play with each others hair (and other things like lick each other, hold hands that are all snotty and sticky, dribble on each other.....).

It's stupidly making me worried some woman has been in my house. I have no reason to suspect my husband at all. But I cannot see a logical reason for this except if the hair is transfered from nursery, but then would it happen multiple times? I felt like maybe I am being stupid telling myself it must be from nursery.
So I wanted to hear others views.

@Sjaodojebevsjj I seriously think it will be from one of the staff or another child.
That's all.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/09/2024 20:10

You know how nursery nurses will be playing with your child, carrying them, picking them up, changing them... childcare can be quite up close & personal.... and then you know how babies can be quite curious and grabby. It's not hard for odd hairs to transfer like this!

I think you're being unnecessarily paranoid, unless you are looking for a reason to distrust your partner.

mindutopia · 07/09/2024 21:13

Hair, no. But definitely my children came home smelling of someone else, which was a bit strange. It meant they were getting lots of cuddles though, so I guess that was okay. If there is someone at nursery dealing with hair loss though, I can imagine that hair could be more an issue.

mindutopia · 07/09/2024 21:16

That said, if over several months you’ve found 4 strands of hair in total, I think maybe you are being a bit paranoid. I’m sure I find more than that in a week, plus some moss, a bit of straw, twigs and a shell. All sorts of junk ends up being tracked all over my house from the dc and Dh. I truly wouldn’t even notice a strand of hair every month or so.

LittleMissDaisyyy · 07/09/2024 21:19

Think you’re over thinking. It is more than likely from nursery. Children play with each other all day, your child will be around lots of little girls as well as the nursery staff usually being mostly women. Can’t say I have found hairs on my toddler but my 8 year old definitely comes home with girls hair on his fleece from school.

Sjaodojebevsjj · 08/09/2024 09:24

Thank you so much everyone for your responses. I know I have a problem with distrust and it is something I am trying to deal with. I just don't have anyone to ask and put things in perspective for me so your comments were really helpful. You taking time to respond means a lot. Thank you

That's helpful, thank you, I have an older child too. It's just not something I have noticed before, but then I got fixated on this since the first time it happened and if I wasn't looking for it I don't think I would have even noticed afterwards
