Recommend me a cordless vacuum cleaner please

Apologies for the really boring thread but can anyone recommend an upright cordless vacuum cleaner, preferably under £300? I've had 2 Gtechs and they're ok but want something with a decent battery life that can deal with cat hair, suitable for both hard floors and carpet.

Agree. Shark all the way

Never tried Shark before. I've had a couple of corded Dysons in the past and didn't rate them.

My parents have had a Bosch, and now have a Shark, and a G-tech handheld on a pole with a rotating brush attachment. I don't know why they had to replace the Bosch, but the Shark is more of a "proper" vacuum cleaner than the Bosch ever was. Dad likes the Shark, my mother prefers the G-tech. The G-tec has bags, which are tiny and expensive, but does mean it's less faff to empty and clean filters than the bagless Shark.

In my opinion, these sorts of cleaners have to be seen for what they are - small, and battery operated. I don't like either of them for anything more than gathering crumbs. When I go to do their cleaning, I use their trusty Electrolux upright, which is about 40 years old now. Obviously for a cleaner of that age it is mains operated, and the tools are stored separately from the cleaner, which is no real hardship. My father has always kept it well serviced, and you can really see the difference when I have done the carpets with it. I'm really not convinced that cordless vacuum cleaners are where we need them to be in order to compete with mains.

I've had three corded upright Dysons over the years. I thought all of them cleaned well, but they fell to pieces on me. The last one was one of those ball cleaners and I thought it was the worst of the lot, but no doubt other people had greater success than I did.

I went from that to a Sebo x4 upright with bags, which I find pretty good. Also we have a 20+ year old Henry which I like for hard floors and jobs that just need the hose. I'm yet to feel the need for a cordless cleaner, but it may come!

@LongTimeReading has hit the nail on the head. Just go with whatever is cheap, cordless vacuums are only good for a daily run around the house. I’ve had a plethora of cordless vacuums and they have all fallen to pieces after a few years, and none of them have been able to handle pet hair, despite claims and fancy attachments!

They have their place but nothing beats a corded vacuum.

I find I hoover much more with a cordless hoover than I ever did with a corded one. It’s just so much less faff.

I’ve ordered a Shark that gets good reviews from John Lewis, £450 down to £230 so hopefully that suits us.

I hope so too, that's a heck of a lot of money to take off a really good product though, I mean, if it's good then they won't have to reduce it to sell it...that is if it was intended to be sold for such a price in the first place.
