Packing for holidays

I am going away for 5 nights abroad. I am packing now.

Do I pack fresh clothes for the 6 days. The 6th day being travelling home. It seems a lot. Or do I reuse any of my clothes? Do I bring a travel wash and maybe wash clothes in the bathroom? Or do I just reuse some clothes. I don't like that option.

What do other people do for packing clothes for a break away. I only have a 10kg bag and carry on.

Reuse some, surely you can wear the same jeans/skirt/trousers more than once? Clean underwear for everyday and maybe clean tops if you really can't bear to wear one more than once.

I travel for a living and I'm still totally rubbish at packing. Sorry no help.

Saintmariesleuth · 07/09/2024 11:01

It depends on a few things:

  • expected weather
  • activities that are planned/likely
  • is there easy access to a washing machine and will it be easy to dry things?

I have travelled a lot and it depends on the info above really

I think because you only have a 10kg bag I would reuse outfits;
-one set of Pjs

  • two shorts but I'd do 5 tops (one of which can be used as pjs if needed once worn in day)
  • evening outfits but be as resourceful as possible eg one skirt which can be worn with. Couple of tops

Then see what room you have an cram loads more in Wink

The weather will be hot 26 to 28 degrees. Main activities will be walking and sightseeing. We will be staying in a hotel. I checked online for laundry facilities but I didn't see anything about laundry. It's a 3 star hotel. I will checking booking.com to see if it mentions laundry facilities.

I like to wear dresses and leggings. My dresses usually have sleeves. Maybe I can pack sleeveless dresses and get away with wearing them more often. I only have two sleeveless dresses. But then I don't like my arms.

As for reusing leggings. I don't like that either. I probably could but I don't like it.

That's very clever. I do have a nice skirt. I will root it out and give it a wash.

You will probably be surprised how much you can get in a 10kg bag x

ouch321 · 07/09/2024 11:12

One outfit for each day, just as you would normally.
You've mentioned you're going to be walking in hot weather so I doubt you'd want to re-wear sweaty clothing.

overgrowntoddler · 07/09/2024 11:15

Where are you going?

I love a packing thread!

FinallyYouSaid · 07/09/2024 11:17

I don't think you'll want to be wearing leggings in 26-28 degrees op? Sounds uncomfortable.

For 5 nights I'd be packing:

2 day dresses
2 shorts
3 vest tops
(5 outfits, rewearing one of the shorts). Last day I'd wear whatever I travelled there in.

3 'night' dresses...if it's the kind of place where you'll shower/change and go to dinner (wearing two of the dresses twice).

One Swimsuit
Underwear
One jacket if needed for evenings
Wear trainers/walking sandals, take a pair of nicer sandals for evenings.

Mini toiletries rather than full size.

You can get 2 weeks worth in a 10k case. No need to wash anything. Knickers, bikini , 2 shorts 5 tops. Dresses for night
Roll them to fit in dont fold

Flip flops and . Comfy sandles that will do for day and night x

Also for handluggage only, check the allowances carefully. Jet2 for instance, you get the standard carry on luggage in the overheads and one 'small personal item' for under the seat.

The personal item is bloody big ime though. I bought a cheapy underseat bag on amazon and it fit LOADS. Kind of like mini-holdall rectangle shape. I had a very large pair of wedge heels in there, flip flops, all my toiletries and makeup, my actual day handbag with bits in (bag within a bag!), my book, hair straighteners and a few other bits. It was like a tardis, absolutely stuffed full and still fit neatly under the seat.

WANDF Small Cabin Bag 40x20x25 for Ryanair Airlines Foldable Underseat Travel Bag Water-Resistant Hand Luggage Holdall Bag Weekend Overnight Bag for Women Men (Dark Blue 20L) https://amzn.eu/d/9kPQ7B5

For anyone wanting a recommendation for underseat bags...£6.79! Definitely meets Jet2 requirements, I've used it twice in the last couple of months. Extremely strong and sturdy and will slot over your case handle, you can't go wrong for the price.
