Has anyone had tooth extraction not right at the back?

Tooth is bottom left 3rd from the back. I've been back and forth to my own dentist a few times now with severe toothache, because I'm pregnant they won't do root canal and just keep cleaning it out and putting temp dressing on. I haven't been able to eat on it all week and yesterday afternoon it flared up massively, I have honestly never felt such pain in my life as when this tooth flares up. I've got an appointment at my own dentist for Monday but terrified of dealing with this pain all through the weekend once again.

I called an emergency dentist and they are calling me back at 10 if they have any emergency appointments left (they save any before this for their own patients). I feel like just asking to have it removed because I'm sick of the back and forth. I wouldn't hesitate if it was right at the back (have had one extracted right from the back with absolutely no issues) but it's 3rd from the back and I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar extraction did you suffer problems afterwards? Does it feel weird?

I had to have one second from the back removed (the one in front of the wisdom tooth) after the root canal filling failed - no problems, and it turns out when I had a scan to check if it was ok for an implant that my nerve was really shallow. So I'd have thought that would make it more likely to be painful than less.

Thank you, I'm worried about dry socket and was wondering if it's more common with teeth that are not right at the back. I just can't deal with the pain on top of everything else at the moment!

I had a top number 5 removed when root canal wasn't feasible. It cost a lot less too!
I didn't get dry socket, and the tooth pain went instantly. The dentist should be able to advise you about avoiding dry socket. I'd go and get the tooth taken out.

The emergency rang back and said they don't have any appointments left for today so will have to wait until Monday until I see my own dentist.

I had a top molar out and was paranoid about dry socket too but it was fine. I researched and followed all the advice and it healed quickly and easily. Much less painful afterwards that I'd imagined it might be. I did have it out under sedation though so not sure how the actual procedure would feel without that.

I had top tooth - two from the back - taken out in June. Multiple infections in an old root canal and tbh I had just had enough of the constant low level pain with flair ups that left me in a lot of pain.

Dentist numbed my gum and it was out in a matter of mins.
No problems since and no more pain!
Good luck for Monday

Hi,
I had lower tooth one from back (I think number 7) out in July. (Was in no pain, but it was broken beyond repair and a bit of a ticking time bomb.) It was quite a difficult extraction for the dentist and I was quite bruised afterwards. I did get dry socket and had to go back 4 days later to have the wound reopened, cleaned and dressed. It was all pretty grim for around a week in total. I was on round the clock painkillers for at least the first two weeks, and only came off them entirely after about a month. But - the painkillers did largely keep it at bay and I think it feels OK now (I'm due a review fairly soon).
I think I was at the unlucky end of what you'd expect (the dentist phoned me after the dry socket treatment to ask how I was!!), but just wanted to share for balance. You have my deepest sympathy - tooth pain is the worst thing. I would genuinely rather give birth.
Incidentally, I had a root canal when I was pregnant (years ago, admittedly!).
What are you doing for painkillers? I found the best thing for teeth was Nurofen Plus, alternated with paracetamol (which doesn't seem as good for teeth). I can't remember what you can take in pregnancy though. I do think the posher ibuprofens (e.g. nurofen express) seem to work better than regular ibuprofen with teeth.
