Am I registered with a dentist?

I know it sounds like a really weird and stupid question but I never registered with a dentist in the UK before.
I had an emergency appointment not too long ago and was told I was looking at a 6 to 9 month wait list to even get registered with a dentist because they are all full.
Today I went to my local health center to register with a GP and thought I might as well register with the dentist (same building) with my kids and they just handed me a form and then said my appointment was next month.
Is it just part of the process or am I actually registered?
Thank you

It's probably not part of registering with a GP as they'll be separate businesses with separate capacity for patients.

You might have been taken on as a private patient rather than as an NHS patient. I'd ring the dentist and ask them on what basis you've been taken on.

Sorry, I meant to say that it's a separate business on a separate floor but the building is the same.

That's a very good point, I didn't think of that, I'll give them a call

Even with our NHS dentist now, we're only 'registered' for each episode of care/course of treatment. So before each appointment we get an electronic form to complete for that examination.

In England and Wales there is no such thing as NHSregistration. A dentist is only obliged to see you during a course of treatment. Outside of that they have no obligation to offer you an appointment. Most dentists try to keep offering appointments to regular patients but if they do not have capacity then there is no obligation to offer an appointment.

Scotland and NI still have NHS dental registration.

Thank you for the clarification.
I am in Scotland. I called and they confirmed I was an NHS patient, so I'm guessing that means I don't have to register before every course of treatment?

In Scotland unless you or your dentist requests deregistration you are registered for life . https://www.nhsinform.scot/care-support-and-rights/nhs-services/dental/receiving-nhs-dental-treatment-in-scotland/
