Best way to remove a wedding band

It has been in my finger for over 40 years. I’ve made halfhearted attempts and googled a bit but wonder if anyone has succeeded in getting a fairly wide band off of a slightly arthritic finger. If possible I’d prefer for it not to be cut off.

YouTube it, piece of string. I've never yet cut a ring off a patient requiring theatre to date

I had to have a wide ring cut off unfortunately. Hands were swelling up with thyroid issues which has now been treated. However they then repaired where they cut it and it looks like new. Too scared to put it back on now though.

Thanks. Will look at YouTube and try the floss method this evening

I found floss too narrow, ended up using the plastic streamer stuff that you get on helium balloons, about 5mm wide.
Sit with your hand up wrapped in ice (in a bag or towel etc) for 10 minutes first. Then do the floss method but with the streamer. Tuck one end through the ring and then wind it as tight as you can up to the knuckle. Get someone else to help if you can. You need to compress the finger as much as possible. Then unwind the tape from the end tucked under the ring, pushing the ring up the finger as you go. The finger podge kind of squeezes out the lower side of the ring as you go.
I will warn you now, it was horrific, but I got it off. My finger was cut and bleeding as the area under the ring was all thin and flaky, but once the ring came off it was a million times better. I was howling with the pain, it was something else, but it had to come off really.
I’m going to get the rings resized anyway so if they had to be cut off, so be it.
Good luck op, hope it works for you x

Slide a condom over your finger and around the ring, remove and it instantly provides lubrication to easily slide your ring off.

If you go to a jeweller they can cut it off, add a bit of gold to make it bigger, and you will be able to wear it comfortably again in a few weeks time.
