used to be such an avid reader. Find I haven’t had the attention span or time since having children. Am going on a children trip away for a big birthday and would love some books recommendations that will capture my attention again.
the type of books I’ve enjoyed from memory were verity, shuggie bain, fifty fifty etc
thanks!

Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes

The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak

When Women were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill

Demon copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver similar to Snuggie Bain and really good

The girl with the louding voice by Abi Dare - beautiful

A terrible kindness is a wonderful book about the aberfan disaster

I loved the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo

What about The Dry by Jane Harper? It's a crime novel, well written, romps along at a decent pace and everyone I know who has read it enjoyed it.

I think a book like this with a strong narrative and less prose is ideal to get back into a rhythm of reading and would be a great poolside read

Would also recommend audible if concentrating is hard, you can listen as you do chores and rewind, pause etc as much as you need

I loved Burial Rites by Hannah Kent on my last holiday. Was really hooked.

If you liked verity then you might like the other Colleen hoover books, I've only read it ends with us by her which has just been turned into a film

Also the Taylor Jenkins Reid books are such page turners, seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo, daisy Jones and the Six, Malibu rising etc.

A lot of people rave about the housemaid series of books as well but I haven't read them

The Thursday Murder Club series.

Easy, enjoyable reads with lovable characters and some suspense. Very funny as well.
