A V shaped pillow is ideal for this, really cheap and can buy extra covers for them

helpfulperson · 04/09/2024 21:06

I bought an adjustable bed. not cheap but I love it.

I just have 2 extra pillows! I sleep on one pillow but add 2 more if I want to sit and read in bed ( no TV in bedroom).

Dunelm do a v shaped pillow that's so comfy for this.

Another vote for V shaped pillow. Dunelm do a comfy one and they sell the covers in a few covers

Summerdew · 04/09/2024 21:19

A big square pillow with 2 normal pillows in front of it, stacked flat / perpendicular to how you would sleep on them. Or a V pillow as PP suggested.

I just cannot do it. My bum just slides down the bed. No matter what pillows/supports I have I just end up flat on my back, with my neck at a terrible angle.

I had an accident and had my entire shoulder replaced. I had to sleep sitting up, I had two different types of back rests, nope! I ended up 'sleeping' in the recliner

im s stomach dweller & I've made my peace with that!!!

I have a v shaped pillow
Buy pillowcases at the same time

Another vote for v-shaped pillow.

Definitely a V shaped pillow - I've been using one for 2 weeks following shoulder surgery and it's brilliant.

Garlictest · 05/09/2024 04:35

How do you use a V-shaped pillow? Often wondered, never dared ask!

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 05/09/2024 05:17

I've a V pillow. I have a regular memory foam cushion I sleep on, and the V pillow placed over it - in an upside down V shape. I sori of pull the sides to adjust. I can add in extra neck support, depends on the angle. I suffer a lot with back and neck pain so need to feel guilty supported

To sit up, I just put it against the headboard and lean against it. In an upside down V.

SorrowsPrayers · 05/09/2024 07:00

If using a V-shaped pillow what supports your back? I get the impression that the V touches your head and then pushes your arms forward leaving your back in the hole. It all feels a bit collapsed.

EBearhug · 05/09/2024 07:19

I have the top of the V between my shoulders, so my shoulders could go back, and the centre of the pillow supports my back with space for my hips. I think what also makes it work is thst it's very firm.

TheNoodlesIncident · 05/09/2024 07:50

I also have the V shaped pillow from Dunelm (I think it's Dorma). I can pull it round to nestle into it, put it at a right angle rather than a V. It adds an extra layer of comfort. I like to go to bed and really settle, I read for a while or look at my phone and my additional pillow is a fab support. I also get reflux now and then and feel more comfortable propped up more, so it's useful for that too.

Highly recommend them - I haven't tried the "armchair" style teddy ones but I think they're probably less versatile; great for sitting up reading but not much else. V pillow can be used as a pillow, plus you can push the ends of the V together, it's quite malleable.

I have a big pillow thing - this sort of size. ( this is just the case). That and a normal pillow is perfect.

Something like this one:

You need lots of pillows, then arrange them so they support you. I have a very thick memory foam one, three normal ones and a V pillow.

My mum likes a soft pillow folded in half to prop up a weak shoulder and help her sit straight.
