Just bumping this as I think it's easy to think, Well, all companies are bad, so what does it matter.

Not surprised at all, their clothes are shit as well

KnickerlessFlannel · 05/09/2024 07:22

Have you got a link for more information please

bornleafy · 05/09/2024 07:25

Doesn't surprise me.

I ordered from them one time after my friend was raving about it.

Instantly regretted it, the clothes were horrendous. Clingy, sweaty, cheap fabric, badly made - I don't know how anyone can wear it.

Then I read/ heard about how awful they are ethically. You can say that many high street fashion outlets have dubious ethics, but Shein (like Temu) are in another league.

Never again.

Pippifer · 05/09/2024 07:27

I’m not surprised at all. I would never buy from Shein.

bornleafy · 05/09/2024 07:28

@KnickerlessFlannel If you just Google "Shein ethics" there is plenty of information.

Doggymummar · 05/09/2024 07:28

A comparison chart would be more impactful. How they compare with others on the high street. This means nothing on its own.

VictoryOrDeath · 05/09/2024 07:31

No, I'm not surprised either, although did think that 2/100 was particularly bad.

Not a massive surprise. I know many companies are guilty in some way but Shein takes the biscuit.

I agree, it would be great to compare against many high street stores.

If Shein and Amazon are selling the same product, let's say a paint brush for example, it's identical but Shein sell it for £1 and Amazon for £5. Isn't the seller from Amazon just getting it from exactly the same place as Shein but then adding a profit on top? Therefore still supporting the same unethical labour practises ? Genuine question.

Agree. It's all the same bloody stuff. We went in a clothes shop in north Laine Brighton. It was the same stuff as on Ali Express / SHEIN etc at a marked up price. You can find the same stuff on Etsy /Amazon / eBay as Ali Express as well.

Plump82 · 05/09/2024 07:50

I bought a skirt from shein years ago. Then found exactly the same skirt on the Debenhams website. It was a pretty unusual pattern on the fabric, so definitely the same skirt.

LifeofBrienne · 05/09/2024 08:02

Unless you take care and pay extra then yes there’s always a chance on the high street that your clothes will come from exploited Bangladeshi workers, Uyghur slavery in the cotton industry etc. But when you buy anything from Shein I think it’s pretty much guaranteed that there will be exploitation in the supply chain. I’d feel icky buying Shein even second hand on Vinted.

This is what Shein does. They copy other brands clothes and sell them cheaper. It's the same pattern, colour, cut etc. Just made by modern day slaves and children using fabric soaked in cancerous chemicals.

Suitcasesthree · 05/09/2024 08:24

Unfortunately, I am on a very tight budget at the moment and I do buy things from Shein using Klarna to pay in three. I simply cannot afford the high street for me, homeware and my children. Lots of things look lovely and with the right care they last as long as others would.
For now, I haven't the money to think about ethics.

Might want to think of the long term effects for your kids though

Suitcasesthree · 05/09/2024 08:33

@Chrsytalchondalier At the moment, those would be trauma from being too poor to afford clothes because mumsnet said mummy can't buy cheaper things.

But I bought the skirt long before it appeared on the Debenhams website.

Trauma? Ok, then you probably have much more issues to deal with then

Wow pretty little thing on zero! They are recommended a lot on the style forum here. Just goes to show.
