I read somewhere you have to pay double for the first 6 months?

I don't watch anything requiring a license but I'm often quite bored scrolling netflix and think I might like to have proper telly back.

If it's £14 a month then yeah, but if it's 28 I'll stick to netflix

Yes apparently you're charged double the first 6 months
So you pay for 18 months your first year?

No wonder nobody pays for one anymore

Is that a name change fail there?

I think the OP just did some research then posted again.

I'm not sure I'm afraid, it wouldn't feel fair to have to pay double for 6m though.

You don't pay double, when you start you pay some up front then you're always ahead. Im sure it's explained on the TV licence website

Well it is double. It's usually £14 a month but the first 6 months is £28. And then the next 6 months you still have to continue paying £14 even though you've paid the year already.

My eldest is off to uni and has a tv, with everything else that is costing money, the government can chuff off if they think we will pay double for a tv license even for a bit. He can just not watch live tv or use iPlayer.

When you stop needed a licence you get the 6 months back as it's paid in advance, it s like if you pay your car insurance annually and cancel part way through the year you get a refund but slightly different in that you always stay 6;months ahead not a decreasing amount

What a strange model - I can't think of other things that we pay for in advance like this, but maybe it's just too early for me.

AuntieMarys · 05/09/2024 07:37

Just paid £169
