Shoes for DD with wide feet?

fridaseyebrows · 04/09/2024 18:41

I am hoping some wise mumsnetters will able to help me out here!

DD is nearly 8 and I am really struggling to get shoes for her. She has a wide foot and a high instep and wears a 3.5 size shoe. (Gone up two shoe sizes in the course of a year!) She finds the widest size in Clarks tight on her - if we go up a size to help with width the shoe is then too big and slips off as she walks. Insoles don’t seem to help. Trainers wise she only wears Skechers but really wants to get something a bit different now as well.

she was in tears today in the shops trying to find school shoes and trainers - any recommendations of brands / shops / styles would be much appreciated.

thank you!

Clarks aren't great for high instep, my DD has one. I preferred start rite shoes for her when she was younger. They have an outlet store too

She probably needs an E fit which you can get from places like Yours and Evans. Might have to buy online and try them.

I think Next and M&S also do wider fit, and I am pretty sure New Look and Matalan do them in store.

My friend has this problem with her daughter, she said only start rite school shoes fit. I had the opersit problem as a kid very narrow fit I also could only wear Start rite.

BoilingHotand50something · 04/09/2024 18:50

Finally, I think the adult version of Kickers are quite roomy and basically all school kids round here seem to wear Kickers!

LuckyLois · 04/09/2024 18:52

Have a look at barefoot shoes, they have a much wider toe box for wide feet than the high street brands. I buy school shoes from www.bgreatershoes.com every year and they're fantastic (and pretty much on a par, cost wise, with Clarks et al.)

Yes good shout re Startrite. One of my girls needed an orthotic and she was fitted into an Angry Angels shoe due to the extra width and depth.

NothingAGoodCuppaDoesntFix · 04/09/2024 21:11

Start rite. Dd high instep and G width .

Hush puppies have always done well for my wide footed offspring.

girljulian · 04/09/2024 21:35

Good old Startrite was what I always ended up in as a kid! Solidarity to your poor DD -- I remember the horrible struggle all too well. I was an H width!!

TeaandHobnobs · 04/09/2024 21:55

DD's feet are similar, and her shoes often end up being Froddo, Primigi or Ricosta. Worth going to an independent shoe shop if you can find one locally.

MujeresLibres · 04/09/2024 22:23

Another one saying Start Rite. Clarks always seem to be too narrow, in adult shoes too.

Aproductofmyera80s · 04/09/2024 22:37

Dd 11 is very similar. We managed to get her a wide shoe for school from M&S… in terms of trainers, I work in a shop selling trainers, Nike air force ones are quite roomy, adidas superstars or puma jada/carinas…

SabrinaThwaite · 04/09/2024 23:06

I’ll add New Balance and ASICS for wide fit trainers.

I came to suggest these too. Although my DS's new pair seem to be lost in the post and he went back to school yesterday moaning that his shoes aren't comfy

I found start right better for this issue when my DD was small and now seeing the same with my GD …..she’s nearly 9 ….measured at a 1.5 …..went up to a 2 which fits lovely

BurbageBrook · 05/09/2024 10:55

My feet are similar. My ankles are slim so some wide fit shoes end up too sloppy round the ankle. Barefoot shoes are the best for me.
