Talk to me about heated airers.....

I'm considering purchasing one.

If you have one in your home, would you replace it if it broke?

Was it a waste of money or one of your best purchases?

If not, do you think owning one would be no better than a normal airer next to the radiator?

Thank you

I've had the Lakeland 3 tier one, with a cover for 2 years now. We do at least a load a day,so it's invaluable, and if it broke tomorrow, I would replace it immediately.
It was ridiculously expensive and I do think they shouldn't be so expensive, but it works amazingly, dries a full load in 7 -10 hours. Doesn't make the house damp.
Hint: for the best result lay the folded clothes flat across the bars, rather than hanging over the bars.

I have one at my mum's house and it is invaluable, one of the best things I have bought. It is used virtually every day and dries heavy, waterproof bed pads and flannelette bedding overnight. I would one hundred per cent replace if broken. Most of the heavy laundry I fold and lay across the racks, for smaller items that hang I sometimes use a sheet to cover the racks and this improves the drying time. I do not often wash lots of smaller items so not sure how much would fit on if you wash large loads. It does need to be in a ventilated space or will cause condensation.

I got one and it was hopeless!!!! Left it overnight and the clothes were still wet in the morning. Would not be buying again

Hi I am also interested. Do you think it’s cheaper than using the dryer machine ?

Also which brand did you get?

Topseyt123 · 04/09/2024 18:51

I had the Lakeland 3 tier one too but I didn't rate it to be honest. It only dried stuff where it wasn't in contact with the rail, but otherwise not. I did cover it with a sheet too to keep the heat in but still no good.

I ditched it in favour of returning to my two unheated clothes airers, which worked far better for some reason. Eventually it was taken to the dump.

SarahLHs · 04/09/2024 18:51

Love ours and wouldn't be without it. We put a load on before bed and it's dry when we wake up. Also have the Lakeland 3 tier one.

BoilingHotand50something · 04/09/2024 18:54

I don’t think it is that cheap to run. I was a bit underwhelmed with mine but if I am having a big laundry day, I use it and put other non heated airers around it for maximum drying.

IndicesOfDeprivationHELP · 04/09/2024 19:06

Just get one. They rock.

Hepzibar · 04/09/2024 19:11

Had the Lakeland 3 tier for years. Would replace immediately if it conks.
My daughter has the proper cover for hers but I just throw a sheet over it.

It's invaluable in the winter months but frankly use it most days, even through what is supposed to be summer

They are 9p per hour!
Get one OP. They're on sale now too. Best thing my MIL ever bought me!

Thank you. The consensus appears to be positive so far.
I'm not bothered about the costs, I use the tumble drier now and won't stop using that. I was just thinking of getting a heated airer for some things that won't go in the tumble drier, especially the hoodies that will appear out of the winter wardrobe soon.
John Lewis has one in stock, and Lakeland has a bundle offer on. I might just go ahead and order one of those.

If you put a sheet or a cover over the wet washing, where does the water evaporate to?

I had one tried it out didn’t work very well, also it was bulky and took up a lot of room. Lakeland were fantastic and I got a full refund I did say I had used it. We have an old fashioned pulley in the kitchen that’s works for me.

JohnTheRevelator · 04/09/2024 19:20

I have one,I got it from Groupon about 8 years ago. I find it really handy in winter. I think Groupon still sell them, around £30.

HurdyGurdy19 · 04/09/2024 19:23

I have the Lakeland 3 tier one, which came with a free cover.

I put underwear, socks and tea towels on the bars of the lower tiers, then fold them down. I hang all other clothes on hangers and hang them from the top tiers. Then they're straight off the drier and into the wardrobe.

It's my second one, which answers the question of would I replace it if it broke 😊

Well all I know is, when I use one, my Smart Meter goes sky high!

Threesmycrowd · 04/09/2024 19:28

I have the lakeland 3 tier and it's okay but wouldn't replace it... as pp said clothes only dry when they're in contact with the heated bars - so you can't hang 7 t shirts ovef 1 bar each and expect them to dry much faster than normal. What am I doing wrong?! I don't have a cover is that my mistake?

autumnboys · 04/09/2024 19:32

@Threesmycrowd an cover or a large sheet over it will definitely help.

I love mine and would definitely replace it.

BG2015 · 04/09/2024 19:40

Love mine. Bought it off eBay about 4 years ago but I've seen them in Aldi and the Range.

It's great and was only about £30.

Saschka · 04/09/2024 19:41

Love mine, would definitely replace. We have it on almost constantly in winter when it is too wet for the washing line.

NoMoreCheddar · 04/09/2024 19:45

I have the John Lewis one. Stuff dries well overnight.

VictoryOrDeath · 04/09/2024 20:03

I love my Lakeland one, would replace immediately if it broke. I just checked my emails, and I bought it in 2012 😮!

I use it alongside a dehumidifier - everything dries really quickly, and the house doesn't get damp.

Houseplanter · 04/09/2024 20:13

@Billcosby if you cover your wet washing, surely the water is to some extent trapped by the cover? How does it make the washing dry more quickly?

Not a trick question at all
