What have you done to keep data on your phone secure should it be nicked?

Inspired by another thread. I've lived in London all my life and have never had any issues at all apart from a purse taken from an unsecured bag in the 90s. But I do worry about my phone being taken because it would be such an enormous pain in the arse to sort out. I am going to take my bank accounts off it and keep them on my laptop instead. What else should I do?

Use every security function your phone offers. Turn it all on. If it offers a "lost my phone detonate the data" function, turn that on.

Beware of people shoulder surfing to see your passcode, then stealing your phone.

Don't let texts 'preview' when your phone is locked (can be viewed for two factor authentication codes).

Turn on your SIM lock password so your SIM can't be put in a different phone (to get around not having your phone passcode).

Consider if your bank account password and email password can be reset via text message authentication. Where possible use a different method.

Do you need to have your main email account logged in on your phone? Could you have a second email account that is logged in on your phone to which you forward things like tickets, and the one that you use for sensitive things like your bank account you need to log in on the web browser if you need it when out (or check at home).

Do you have your IMEI number so your phone can be deactivated if stolen? Or a way to block and wipe it remotely?

This is all really helpful. No to all the above, I am clueless. Will start doing all this now

Face id and that’s it. I presume that’s enough?

I have two factor authentication on my email for access not on my phone.

My iPhone has a setting called Stolen Device Protection. If the phone isn’t in a familiar location you have to use touch or Face ID to do some things (which you wouldn’t normally) and if you change passcodes then you can’t access any money for an hour. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/120340

Stolen Device Protection adds a layer of security when your iPhone is away from familiar locations, such as your home or workplace.

The Times had an excellent piece on this earlier this year:
