Primary Teachers, do you get a "handover" from the previous class teacher?

Just curious as DD has a brand new, straight of teacher training teacher this year and I was wondering what kind of info he might get.

Does the previous class teacher sit with you at all and give you the low down on each pupil? I.e., that one is cheeky but means well, that one can be a nightmare, that one shouldn't sit with that one because they'll talk all class. Etc etc.

Or is it more general? "This class is generally pleasant".

Or nothing at all and it's a total blank state, perhaps with the exception of one or two children whose reputation is already unfortunately well known?

Yes

Our school do a detailed handover although (so I’m told) it’s nothing to do with being cheeky or a nightmare but what support they need and how to get the best from them.

Yes,

My school scheduled time for teachers to do this.

Yes every school I've ever worked in has done handovers to the next class teacher.

Even the reception teacher has a rough idea as they liaise with the nurseries the children come from

Of course they do a hand over !

Our school do handovers..... whether the new teacher reads them is a different issue and one I am already keeping a close eye on as adjustments have not been in place for the 2 days they have been in school. Caused upset both nights at home so far.

Yes, I always sat down with the previous teacher and discussed each child and their parents. Both good and bad things. For the parents we mentioned safeguarding issues obviously, but also just if the parents had been difficult or unreasonable in their expectations.
