Does anyone have days off work during the week where the kids are at school? I have the opportunity to do this, and have 2 days off with no work, no kids... The guilt is real! I'd have plenty to keep my busy but just not sure if it's right?! Anecdotes pleeeeez!

OMG, that's the actual dream. Why would you not?! It's not like the school day is that long either.

Or are you saying you'd be working weekends instead?

Meadowwild · 04/09/2024 09:53

Do it! I'd spend one day getting life organised: weekly clean, weekly shop, batch cooking, admin. And the other day would be guilt free totally to myself: Join a yoga class, go swimming or for walks, book hair/dental/eye appointments, see a friend for coffee, meditate, write in a journal, study towards a qualification or learn a new skill. Bliss.

Loads of people have time off when kids are at school. House still needs cleaned shopping etc all a bit easier as just get hammered into it .
Don't waste time on guilt enjoy it we are all a bit less frazzled with a bit of time to ourselves

I work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and have Thursday and Friday off. It’s great! I get the house organised, have the big food shop delivered and caught up on the washing but also have time to myself to read and catch up on whatever tv show has been building up on the sky box!

I only went down to 3 days recently and thought I’d be bored but i can’t imagine going back to full time now (appreciate I’m fortunate to be able to say that).

In my job I also have the opportunity to pick up shifts to cover holidays etc for others so there plenty of opportunity to work additional hours if I need or want to, especially handy in the run up to christmas and birthdays (which in my house are all in the 5 weeks around Christmas)

I work occasional weekends anyway but just the way my childcare has worked out for the youngest, would give me another day alone! I already get one day that I spend guilt free cleaning, shopping, life admining which is brill, but to have another day to do me stuff? Just doesn't feel real 😂

Yes there's always opportunity for extra hours at work as well so that is a good point around Christmas etc!
