Neighbour keeps getting drunk

I have a neighbour who's probably in his 70s. He's always going to the pub and he staggers home.

Other neighbours are utterly pissed off with him because it's dangerous for people driving when he's on the road staggering and falling.

Other neighbours feel they have an obligation to help him home. One of these people is my mother. It can easily take an hour for her to walk what is usually a 15 minute walk if she meets him. She often becomes stressed ranting about how bad he is to me.

I have a different view in that he should be left to it. There's nobody forcing him to go to the pub and get that bad. My mother says that she will never be able to lube with herself if he was to die like that. I'm like - so fucking what. He's the only one doing that to himself. If he cared about himself he wouldn't do it.

I am just so pissed off with him. He's always getting drunk and if it's not my mother walking finding him and walking him home it's someone else.

I'm thinking now if the pub has some sort of obligation here in all of this mess. Surely they should stop serving him when they see he's getting too bad with the drink. What do you guys think?

No way would I waste my evening walking the old soak home.

And pubs sell booze to customers, it's what they do not their issue if he chooses to get blotto.

Your Mum is playing the martyr.

Just as people are saying leave him to it - leave your mum to it. No way would I be wasting my time walking him home, nor would I waste energy getting annoyed at my mum. Tune out.

Your mum is a good woman.

Id like to think if it was my dad/grandad I’d be grateful to your mum. I’d help someone home who needed it.
