What could this mark on my hand be?

I noticed a red mark yesterday on my finger, it looked like a burn but it definitely wasn't. Didn't really think much more of it

I have this evening noticed a similar looking mark on the side of my hand but bigger, it definitely isn't a bruise or a burn

The mark that was on my finger is no longer there

I accidentally electrocuted myself on Friday unplugging something, Certainly not bad but it did hurt , but I don't think this could have anything to do with it.

I've no idea what it could be? It doesn't hurt at all just finding it bizarre!

Looks like burn damage - did you get checked out after the electrocution? Might be worth sending a photo to GP?

Northernsoul1989 · 02/09/2024 20:46

@shunderland no I didn't get checked out, maybe I should have. The pain went right up my arm, but was fine after a few seconds so I thought no more of it to he honest!

I think I'll see what it looks like in the morning then contact GP

Have you been carrying anything with handles that could have put pressure on, looks a bit like a friction burn.

Northernsoul1989 · 03/09/2024 12:34

@AnchorWHAT not that I can think of, I'm unsure now if it's got bigger 🤦‍♀️

Maybe call in and ask a pharmacist advice? Or see if you see a GP or nurse at your surgery, tell them about your electric shock. I presume you have consulted dr google about after effects of an electric shock and nothing useful?

Megifer · 03/09/2024 12:38

Hmm keep an eye on that op, I'm not a fan of that red line that looks like it could be your vein?? Not even sure it's possible to get an infection from being electrocuted.

Draw a line around it and see if it spreads?

Northernsoul1989 · 03/09/2024 12:40

@Megifer I did think the same about the line near the vein. And I'm pretty certain it wasn't there yesterday like that

@AnchorWHAT can't find anything of Google that is useful!

What does a mild electrical burn look like?

Symptoms of a superficial skin burn (previously called a first-degree burn) include: Skin pain, redness, and dryness. When the burned area is pressed, it turns white. Heals in three to six days and does not leave a scar.
so probably an electrical burn however dr google also says
Any person who has been injured by contact with electricity should see a healthcare professional. The damage may be worse than it looks from the burn on the skin. Sometimes an electrical injury can cause damage to skin, muscles, blood vessels and nerves, often in an arm or a leg.
so for peace of mind id be getting it checked out .

Megifer · 03/09/2024 12:42

Yea I'm not normally one for "oh that looks slightly odd better get to a&e" but I think I'd be going to a local minor injuries if you have one? Would definitely get it checked out somewhere soon though.

SoupDragon · 03/09/2024 12:46

I remember a guy I worked with got an electric shock and the burns appeared a few days later so it could be that.

Northernsoul1989 · 03/09/2024 12:47

Thank you all for your replies

I've put a line around it to see if it spreads, going to wait for DH to get home, (to mind child) he should beb home inban hour, going to then pop pharmacy to see what they say, then maybe try minor injuries / walk in centre

It looks like an exit wound from an electrical shock. My son had the same when he was shocked last year on his leg. It wasn't painful to touch or anything but it's the area where the electrical current passes and leaves the body.

Northernsoul1989 · 03/09/2024 12:53

@lolomoon thank you for this information!

If it were my hand I'd be slightly wary of cellulitis. Can get bad very quickly. It's the way the redness looks to be moving along the vein. I'd have a pharmacist / minor injuries / gp look at it asap and if that line moves along the vein I'd probably head to a and e. Hope I'm overthinking it!

Northernsoul1989 · 03/09/2024 13:03

@dairydebris thank you for your reply, I was pretty calm about it for a change but now I'm overthinking 🤣🤦‍♀️

Insect bite?

whosthefoolnow · 03/09/2024 13:38

That red streak coming from it makes me worry. Get it checked as soon as possible

halava · 03/09/2024 13:44

What is all this talk of electrocution from unplugging something! I thought with earthed plugs and junction box cut offs this doesn't happen anymore. I must be wrong....

What happened OP, I'm curious.

Northernsoul1989 · 03/09/2024 13:48

@halava I was simply unplugging a plug from an extension lead (part of my tv) and some how ended up getting electrocuted!! It did take me by surprise and did hurt quite a bit! but was in a rush and at the time didn't really take it it or process it!

I mean I've had small 'electric shocks ' over the years which but not quite like this

I should probably check the plug / extension lead

OP posts:
Northernsoul1989 · 03/09/2024 16:01

The pharmacist thinks it is from the electric shock, said it looks like the shock caused a small vein to burst

Been advised to keep an eye on it, if it's gets bigger, hot or painful to get it looked at ASAP
