What should you do if you think you saw a man take an ‘upskirt’ photo?

This has been bothering me. Some time ago I saw what I think was a man take a photo of women going up the stairs. I can’t be certain, he took his phone out and it’s possible from the angle and the smirk afterwards that he took a photo, but I didn’t see the screen and the angle could also have been innocent. He put his phone away afterwards. These women were wearing quite short dresses. It was a jam-packed train station, if that makes any difference to the situation.

If this were to happen again, what should be done? Confront him? Yell and hope someone intervenes? The problem is I really wasn’t sure, I just suspected it happened. And in the end I did nothing and that still bothers me.

In your situation, nothing because you weren't sure.

If I was sure, I'd start shouting to alert the woman and anyone nearby, before phoning the police.

Difficult as you weren’t totally sure.

Maybe go and speak to the women saying you maybe saw something dodgy, but wasn’t sure, so just to be on the lookout (without pointing fingers).

Take a photo of him if possible for the police.

Yes this so if he’s a repeat offender at his possibly local station the staff and police have evidence of it happening before.

Unfortunately the response about doing nothing to prevent getting stabbed isn’t unreasonable - I spoke up for a woman being verbally abused when nobody else batted an eyelid and was followed by the two men doing it and threatened with violence.

I wondered if someone gave me that information what I could do with it? The deed has (possibly) already been done. Guy is possibly gone but even if you saw him he would deny it and you can't make him show you his phone.

I have asked myself the same question, I saw a man who I am sure took an upskirt photo as a woman went up the steps of a tube station. In hindsight I would have called transport police and stayed near/ behind him to point him out as he reached the ticket barriers, but I have no idea whether I could have got through to them in time.

Yes, if you tell the woman, what can she do? It feels unpleasantly close to saying she should wear a different outfit.

Yes, there was that horrific incident in Ireland with the soldier who beat a woman to the ground when she intervened because he was shouting slurs.

I know of a man who used to sit at a specific pub table to do this. It was under the stairs & the ladies loos were upstairs….

The police “had a word” with him. No further action & he wasn’t even barred from the pub!
